Braid That Doesn't Lose Color?

Featured Replies

I've been using Power Pro for...well...it seems nearly 10 years now and have had no reason to change except for the fact that the color fades after only a couple trips. Even using a Sharpie to recolor the last 3-4ft doesn't last more than a single day.

I'd be open to using another brand if there was one that for sure doesn't lose it's color. Preferrably it would also be offered in some sort of a subdued color besides yellow or red.

Anyone know of a brand that absolutely holds its color?

You won't find one :(

My understanding is that braid doesn't absorb dyes.  The color is a coating.  Thus it turns white with use.  Some braids are better than others...so I have read.  My Sufix Performance is almost white.  Been using it 4 years.  Fireline flaked bad putting it on my spinning reel.  Hasn't seen enough use to know how long the color will last.

EDIT:  Quoted Brian just to show that I agree from my limited experience with braid.

All braids bleed. Some more than others. Of the braids I have tried, Suffix 832 keeps its color longer. That is, of course, out of the ones I have tried (PP, Fireline, Suffix Performance, & Suffix 832).

All braid will fade the dye that is on it. There's really no way around it and the dye is tough to remove.

I actually thought Spider wire Ultracast kept it's color longer than Power Pro, too bad it sucked compared to it in every other aspect.

I personally could care less if my braid holds its color.

Me too.

I don't care either. I prefer my reels turning a yellowish green.

Of all the braid that Ihave used Sunline FX2 holds it color the best.

Or get a white braid. You'll never lose color ;)
