Chinese Lures???

Recommended Posts

I just purchased some Chinese bass lures that don't look that bad. The fit and finish appears ok. The top water skimmer even has a rattle in it too. I been looking for a topwater lure to replace my BPS Topnocker color wise. There are no spooks to match it. I wish I knew who manufactured the topnocker I'd order some. To me it's the hottest topwater lure of all time. Nothing comes close to it, nothing. Of course BPS discontinued it. I wish China would make it I'd even supply a sample to copy.

You get what you pay for; cheap knock off with BPS and cheaper knock off with anything made in China, which is a lot products today.

The original lure your are looking for isn't a Heddon Spook, it's a Vixen by R2Sea, the knock off on the Vixen is by PayCheck lures. An excellent lure of this type is available from Owner lures called a Zip n Ziggy, only available in 3 1/2" model.

The Vixen isn't made by R2S, it's made by Reaction Innovations. RI is about to start selling them again. The Tackle Trap is taking pre-orders for them now.

I use 2 Chinese lures for bass that are my go to lures, far and away both of them are my best producers.  Both are discontinued and not easy to find, when I do find them I'm a buyer.  The jerkbaits are perfect for my ponds and canals here as they do not run very deep, hooks are terrible but easily remedied with 3x trebles, I get a pretty fair lifespan out of them.  The top water lure excels, 2 of them have lasted me a good 2 years, sadly one was lost in a tree, I have 4 more in the package that I haven't needed to open yet.  The one depicted here has 4x hooks on it, keeps working perfectly, I use it probably 3-4 times week.

BigBill, the Chinese copy our products so just wait and I am sure they will start producing knock-offs of whatever you want.

If you want to speed up the process than you start manufacturing the lures and the Tricoms will definitely copy them and flood the market.

And there is nothing you can do to stop them.

Remember new products to the market are beyond cheap till they get a foot in the door sort of speak. Then they will raise the cost little by little once they find a nitch

To me there colors look great and some have the Orange bottoms I'm a looking for. For around $5 for a lot of 2 to 5 lures on eBay that's not bad. It can get a youngster fishing lures for sure or anyone on a tight budget. With some lures here hitting $10 I can't justify buying them or losing them.

I do have some expensive lures like lucky strike and high roller but I fish them very

Carefully not to lose them. They do catch fish. I don't have many but a few with the Orange bottom.

Remember what's new and cheap today will be expensive tomorrow. I would buy them now I see the amount we get for $5 starting to change already. I have to add there colors do look awesome in person.

Since all my favorite lures that produce fish and are my go to lures are being discontinued I need to move on and look ahead to what's new graphics wise from another manufacturer. The graphics that are offered here today just don't work for me. We see foxy this, shady that but where's the color? Fish eat natural colored fish in the wilds.

I use yellow magics, yall should try em out

They started out as Michaels, an improved version of the Zel Roland Pop-R. Don Iovino offered the Splash-It long before Yellow Magic knocked off the design.

It's all about about price, instead of a $12.00 lure you buy the $4.00 Chinese knock and then complain that the original went out of business,

Tom

PS, RI not R2sea is correct, getting old! If you get the impression I am against Chinese counterfeit products, you are correct'

the cheap chinese knockoffs will catch fish, but they are poorly made. The bills break off, paint chips away, hooks and split rings break, and often dont consistently have the action you want or expect. Plus when I break a Strike King or even a Megabass, I can get it replaced by them.

We were all against the lures from Japan at first too.

I find that emailing companies about there products doesn't work too. Companies in general.

McDonald's was very arrogant towards me when I told them about offering a Angus burger in the cheddar

Melt. They told me they don't listen to there customers. Well a few months later the cheddar melt is on the dollar menu. Go figure.

I emailed BPS about there discontinuing the XPS Topnocker. I think they said the sales were down. I said if you don't show some who are new at topwater lures how to use it, it will fall off in sales. Again it's that big ball bearing rattle along with the Orange bottom. To this day it's the hottest topwater lure I have ever used.

Not to go off topic a little, when your contacting companies it seems your giving them business advice, I was saying contact them to replace a broken product. If you contact Mcdonalds about a poor happy meal, I would bet you get a replacement. If you contact Burger king because you feel the kings crown is to small, you might not get a reply.

Most of the high priced lures we buy are made in china, and the BPS lure in question is made in China by the same OEM who makes Cables lures, Pradco hardbaits, some nice japanese stuff, and other brands.....If they are fakes, then they do one heck of a job faking them, same weight, sound, size.......just do some research on your keyboard....you can find knock offs of the BPS lures or any lure and they will not work as well, but you can also find that sometimes companies will actually "borrow" a lure and give it new color, maybe use Matzuo trebles, owner, VMC, and then call it something else.

Ever wonder why baits by certain companies look so similar, and weigh the same? same size? sometimes same color......If you want to find a house brand lure, that is easy to find just by looking into who is the OEM who makes bait for that publically traded company, get the specs down, and then contact the oem or usually a distributor will sell you 10 at a decent price...

I have picked off some Sebile, Heddon, bomber, and other nice lures by buying overseas from the yahoo global trading site, and MOQ is usually only 5 or 10....If you pay .22 for a lure, it is going to be junk, if You pay $5 then it is usually a lure we pay $8-$10 here, sometimes more.....Frogs are a huge savings, so are walking lures, but if you want a good hard segmented swimbait, expect to pay $20 for one that would normally cost $30 and have to buy 5, so it is not all that cheap...If you buy $200, you could do some damage and get a great deal on a lure you like.

Sick bump of a 1 year old post. Almost a year to the date, too.
