I made a post quite a while back about getting a new combo, well I finally got the funds for it, but know I'm not sure which one to get. For sure I am going to get a NRX. I'm just not sure which one. I'm debating on the 893, 854, and 853. I plan to use it for senkos, weighless flukes, and 1/4-3/8oz jigs. I fish primarily from the bank. I'm leaning towards the 893 or 853. I know they have the same specs and all except the length. Does the extra 4" make much of a difference? I don't want the rod to be to long since I fish from the bank. Oh yeah I'm 5'7" if that matters...

You may not want to hear this but among every nrx user that I have spoke to the 893 is the gem of the series and happens to fish the baits and weight classes perfectly. Your height shouldn't matter and unless you have limited room for back casts the 893 is the rod you want.

The 893 is said to be the best rod for all of what you are looking for.  I tend to agree with you though if I'm fishing from the shore I like a shorter rod.  I own the GLX 853C the newest version, it can do what you are asking above too.  It is a tough choice though.  If I am only fishing from the bank, I'd probably get the 853 as it's better suited since it is shorter. 

$500+ you better go where you can touch and feel the rod for yourself!

89 = 89 inches or 7' 5" a long rod to transport in a vehicle, otherwise a good choice for fishing at water level. Fishing from a boat we are standing 18"+ above the water level, the rod length is less of an issue.

I probably would never spend 500+ for a single rod haha. I plan to get a rep sample which will hopefully be a little nicer on my wallet haha. Transportation shouldn't be an issue since the rod should fit in my car.

The 893 is a great rod for all weightless soft plastics. I think it's a HUGE advantage

for fishing from the bank where long cast sometimes come into play.

 

 

 

I like the 893 so much that I have 2 of them.  I'd never pay full retail for one however.  Unless you just have to have one right away, if you're patient and shop around you might be able to get a deal on one.  Make sure you get a receipt and register it for the Wild Card program, NRX's have been known to break.

I decided that I would only get ONE NRX and I chose the .................................................................... 893C. 

 

A rep sample rod that was in perfect condition - it is a GREAT rod...

I also chose an 893 based on everyone saying if you only get 1 NRX the 893 is it. I was not dissapointed. It truly is an amazing rod, almost can't even explain what makes it so great. I also chose a rep sample and would highly recommend it. Can't tell it apart from a full price one.

Great choice! I have one NRX893 and two NRX853's. I really don't find that much difference in the way they fish or feel, but if I were in the market for a new one today, it'd be another 893.

Which ever NRX you get be very careful with it. Mine WAS very fragile.

the 893 for sure would be the ideal rod for you. Most rep samples do come with the Wild Card but for safety measures make sure yours comes with it or there could be a very costly mishap down the road.
