What have you caught on an "Ika" ?

Featured Replies

Been using both 3 & 4 inch Ikas as my go to bait lately and been slaughtering the LMB & smallies, but have also caught 20'' Trout, huge bluegill, perch, & even a 10 lbs Carp on the Ikas. Pretty versitile :)

2 pound crappie on a fat ika and my buddy caught a catfish as well!

I can't buy an Ika fish.

Over the years, the GYCB Senko has been my #1 producer.

Since the introduction of the Fat Ika several years ago, it

has been a close second for largemouth and my #1 soft

plastic for smallmouth bass. (The Rage Tail Baby Craw is

coming on strong!)

The Fat Ika is best suited for shallow water or more generally,

<12' deep. Always weightless and skirt forward. Thin wire

Gamakatsu 3/0 or 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. For me, the

Fat Ika is always fished on spinning tackle with #6 Yo-Zuri

Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft.

8-)

I just started using it but its a great producing bait. The green pumkin one is a smallmouth magnet and the black & blue has produced quite a few LMB for me.

Still a Senko angler but IKA is the real deal for me.

I have just started trying these types of baits.  Nothing caught yet.  I usually fish them weightless working them like a senco.  Am I doing something wrong?  Also, what is the difference between the Ika and Kinami Palm tree?

The Fat Ika is great but the Jackall Cover Craw is also very good!

I gave all mine away.

Too bad, I would have paid you for em.

I have fished all the ikas a fair amount. The tiny and regular ika work well on small darter or ball head jigs. The plasitc on the tiny ika is very durable and will last a long time. A 1/16 ounce Owner darter head fits it very well. I fish these ikas early and late in the year as an alternative to fishing a tube w/ an insert head.

The big and fat ikas do well weightless. I like to drag them like a tube. Early in the year I find they don't get mired down into the early bloom algae as much as a weighted t-rig plastic. The fat ika is pretty heavy. It can be fished deeper and sometimes I like to use it around chunk rock. It won't hang as much because it is so wide. I generally fish the ika series early and later in the year. I have not fished them as much the past year or 2 but I still carry a few bags with me.

Here is a nice ika bass from a few years back.

I catch quite a few fish on these things.  No big ones yet though.
