Placement Of Trailer Bunks ?

Featured Replies

Where is the best spot to have the rear of bunks end? Even with the rear of trailer frame? Overhanging the rear of trailer frame? If so, how much overhang? I'm re-doing my bunk boards, and I want to mount them properly. Thanks.

Slightly longer than the boat transom, when the bow eye is attached.

Thanks, but how much is "slightly longer"? 3" 6" 12" ?

My bunks end right at the transom

Mine is flush with the transom. My ducer mounting choices are limited, so I had to put it on line with the bunk. Hence the blunk flush with the transom

Thanks, but I'm asking where my rear bunks should end. Flush with the rear of trailer, or overhanging the rear of trailer? If overhanging, how much overhang?

Bunk relation to the trailer is negligible. Bunks support the boat. Adequate support for the hull is most important.

After running outside 4" ;)

I vote for 1" past the back of the transom when the bow is tight to the front roller.

Realistically anything past the transom provides 0 support. When I got my boat the bunks were about 1/2 to 1 inch past the transom and ripped off my transducer. Now they are flush with the transom and looks cleaner with no chance of ripping off the ducer as long as you don't floor it over the bow roller

My Bullet trailer bunks are about 1/2" longer than the boat.  On my Xpress they are about 4" longer.

Not to be rude, but no one is answering my question. The boat has nothing to do with it. I want to know where to end the rear of bunks in relation to the rear of trailer frame. Thanks.

Jim,

Do you have bunks currently on the trailer?

The bunks are not there to pretty up the trailer. They are there to support the boat. Where they are in relation to the trailer is directly related to the boat hull. First, is your trailer made for your boat or is it a generic or bought separately? Second, all trailers are not set up the same. My bunks end flush with the back of the frame which happens to be flush with the back of the transom. My trailer is custom to my boat. This is not the case with all trailers. I'm going to assume you've already removed the old bunks. I think your best bet now is to take a measurement from the bow eye to the transom along the hull the best you can. Transfer that measurement to your trailer and add a few inches. Mount the boards. Load the boat. and then mark the bunks to cut off the excess.

What I was going to say. Lol

Yes, but they are roller bunks(that I am removing). I just didn't know where to have the new bunks end, in relation to the trailer. It sounds like it really doesn't matter.

The trailer is not made for the boat.

Definitely what slone said. Make them to the edge if not longer and cut to fit after boat is on it. Watch for any transducer position.
