I have never used flurocarbon just mono or braid but I was looking to try it out when looking on bps i saw flurocarbon coated and 100 percent flurocarbon and I was wondering what is the difference. Is flurocarbon coated copolymer?? What would be my best option? (If it may help I am using it on a jig rod.)

On a jig rod, 100% fluoro 20lb.

Fluoro coated is a copolymer. For a jig rod I use braid with a fluoro leader.

I had breaking issues with Fluoroclear if that's the coated line you are thinking of.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a blend of nylon and fluorocarbon, bonded not coated.  Hybrid

#12 has a breaking strength of 19.5 lbs.

 

There are many options. You will have to experiment in order to find the line that

fits you best. I fish Tatsu #20 on one rod, braid with a fluorocarbon leader on another

and Yo-Zuri on several others!

RW is right. I had similar questions when I joined; however, and RW's last paragraph hits the nail on the head, find what works for you.

 

My experience with Floroclear differs from RW's, but he is not alone with breakage issues. I've just not had them. Perhaps it is my style of fishing, whatever, it works for me and that's great. I don't know of a single fishing product that gets perfect reviews from *everyone* that tries it.

 

Now Yo-Zuri Hybrid works for me, too! I use it in 10 lb test as leader tied to braid. Which, I also use 99.9% of the time - braid mainline + leader, that is. Honestly, I've had more line-breakage issues with Hybrid than Floroclear, but that's me, and I continue to use both.

 

I also continue to dabble in the pure fluorocarbon world, but am still learning how to fish the line. I find I can't fish it like a copoly, and if I snag it and pull too long to free the hook, I should probably change out the leader. Don't normally do that with the YZ or Floroclear.

 

So your mileage may vary from others when it comes to lines you like and don't.

 

Again to echo RW, "experiment".

For a jig rod, especially if 3/8oz and higher I use 20lb fluro. More specifically Abrasizx, has very good abrasion resistance, excellent strength and even on slack line the density of the line makes for good sensitivity.

 

A lot of people do use braid with a fluro leader and it works great for them. The issues I had were feeling slack line bites, and personally I grew tired of tying the extra knot to attach the leader. Everyone is different your experiences will vary.

I prefer copoly ( Yozuri Hybrid ) over pure FC so it´s a matter of not what others say, it´s a matter of trying both and choose your poison, I prefer Hybrid because it behaves more like nylon than pure FC, FC can be tricky if you don´t have experience with it and does not behave so tame ...... well, thinking about it with more care PLine CXX ( copoly ) 12 lbs behaves like a friggin´ wire .......

I have had problems with the coated lines before also.  I would buy a spool of 250 yards in co-poly and fluoro and see which works better for you.
