Vanish Line

Recommended Posts

I am fishing a pond with a ton of rip rap. Literally the entire bank is made out of old construction materials. The concrete underwater is covered with algae or what ever it is.  I broke off a crankbait casting 10lb vanish when it hooked into a leaf. Upon inspection my line was completely frayed up and down for 5 ft  but I got the lure back because it was on the leaf. After that I pulled out new line and retied. Next cast the line snapped as I loaded up the bait to cast.  I was wondering if the vanish line is just that susceptible to rocks or it just frays easily. I understand why it snapped after fishing it for awhile but it after I pulled new line out doesnt make sense. Other line I have used never broke so easily. Is this just a bad spool of line or is vanish just that weak?

Its just what is to be expected with Vanish. The fish vanish......your lures vanish....you get the picture. Riprap isn't kind to any line tho.

Vanish gets bashed pretty consistantly around here.

Surprisingly, 25# Vanish is Big O's line of choice. Go

figure.

Vanish line seemed like a good idea when first came out, then major problems started to happen. Berkely made some changes and re introduced New Vanish, at this time period FC and FC-hybrids line came of age and Vanish basically vanished!

I have been using Berkely Big Game for cranking for decades, tried lots of other line and still use Big Game green 10 or 12 lb for deep diving crankbaits, we have gin clear water.

FC line I now use Blackwater Int'l Solaroam Bass Hi-Class FC in lieu of Sunline Shooter that was my go to FC line for decades. Have't tried the Blackwater mono line.

I would fish any mono out there before spooling up with vanish if another FC wasn't available.

For the price that you would spend on Vanish, I would suggest Seaguar Red Label. Same price and much better stuff. I tested Vanish as a leader and had good results. No issues, but I would never use it as a main line. Nothing here gets more negative reviews that Vanish. .

Perfect timing.

Coincidentally, today I caught my personal best freshwater (or saltwater for that matter) fish of all time.

38 inches

35 pounds on the nose

10 pound Vanish

I fish Vanish and I've never had issues with it. I fish a lot and I can't say that its cost me any fish or lures. I fish a spool two or three days before I change the line out. Maybe that is why I haven't experienced issues.

Seems kind of expensive throwing a way fc that's only a few trips old.

I just walked into a store and picked a couple spool of Vanish about a year ago. I used it for while and didn't have any problem with them. I really didn't get why people dislike it so much on this forum.

I went all braid since then, except for on one reel. It had mono, but I think I spooled the Vanish on this reel this spring. Probably used only twice. Last week I used this reel for the third time. The secon cast of the day with my lipless crank, I caught a fish. Good start I thought. While I was unhooking, the lure came off from the fish and the line. I didn't think much of it, retied and gave a pull. It broke. Hum, I retired again, gave a pull it broke again! Crazy.

I set the reel (and the rod) away the rest of the day. I decided never to use Vanish ever.

My thinking was somehow, this line is fine when it is new, but got deteriorated very fast. I wonder if other people who hate this line had similar experience or not.

I'm curious about something that isn't the main point: what do you mean by "fraying"? I think of fraying as something that happens to braid, unraveling into its separate strands,  but I've never had a mono or fluoro line do that.
