Trying to decide whether to get a 51MG 7.0:1 or 101MG 6.2:1

I fish spinnerbaits with 4.7:1. To much faster and it wears me out. Depending on the size of the spinnerbait, I'd go with the 100. Your only talking a difference of 28 IPT on the 51 over 26 IPT on the 101

I like shimanos 6:2-6:4 gear ratios for both swim jigs and spinnerbaits. the 7:0+ feels like a chore working a spinnerbait. swim jigs can really go either way. I normally fish 1/4oz swim jigs and  I very rarely burn swim jigs as i'm fishing them through pads or bumping into wood cover so the burner gear's aren't necessary. there are times where bumping into say an isolated log, a fish seems to follow the bait and then take it and keep running at you. that's where the burner gear really helps to keep up. more times than not though, the 26(ish) IPT is ideal.

Guess I'm just going to buy both and a spinner bait rod. When my wife gets mad at me ill blame you =)

Go with the 6.4.  I fish up to 3/4 oz swim jigs and it is not that tiring.  It is also fast enought for you to burn the bait if necessary and slow enough for you to fish the lure slow if need be.

I agree 100%, get the 6 ratio. With Shimano's HEG gearing it's a breeze to fish either bait you asked about. I "burn", as in wake, 3/4 oz spinnerbaits all the time with my Citica E's and never feel even the least bit like it's tiring to do for extended periods. Swim jigs are even easier to fish IMO, even with bigger swimbait style trailers like the Swing Impact Fat.    

I find when throwing SB I fish below the sight line and get more action when the lure is where the fish are. I'm reeling much slower to keep it below the sight line. I reel faster to stay above the sight line and In the topwater area.

I did purchase a faster spinning reel for spinnerbaits to burn them but it's tiring me out too. I'm hoping my new 7.0:1 baitcaster reel is easier to use over the spinning outfit.

I have been tempted to purchase a slower baitcaster reel in 5.0:1 if I could find one. Just for slower moving lures. I

already have baitcasting reels in 7.0:1 and In 6.3:1.

Isn't the faster ratio reels made to get the lure faster to us after a strike and a miss?

I use 7:1 for swim jigs, and 6:1 for spinnerbaits

I'm like KVD, I burn the reel too fast so I'm using the 5.5:1 or 6.5:1.  

 

It all depends on you and how you reel.  

 

If you burn the reel, use a slower one.  If you're a slow at reeling then use a high gear ratio 7.1:1.

If I was getting one reel to do both I'd go with the 6. If you can afford both I'd get the 6 for spinnerbaits and the 7 for swim jigs.
