If you could only have one setup for everything (jigs,frogs,topwater,cranks,plastics, etc) What would it be?

Question has been asked many times.  You aren't going to find many on here willing to have just one even if it is a "what if" scenario.  Even if I could deal with just one combo today....tomorrow I might want a different combo.
 

You picked a decent "one combo".  If I could live by my bro-in-law, one outfit would be much easier to pick as we are constantly throwing into the lily pads so my STX-L Gen 1 with 40# Sufix Performance would get the call for a reel (or maybe my Zillion 50th).  The rod choice would be much harder, but it probably would have to be a MHF (versus a Heavy Fast).

 

Personally I have too many rods and reels that I enjoy using.  Picking one is really impossible unless I'm planning on a specific technique, but even if I was going to be doing something like fishing finesse, I'd still have 3 reels and 2 rods to chose from.

 

Besides....we have to keep the Bait Monkey happy! 

Oi, just one?  Hmm. Today, would probably be my Chronarch 50e with my 6' Field & Stream MF rod. Actually, and this could shock, I'd have to think it over between the Chronarch and the Lexa. My Lexa has a 7.1:1 ratio which I much prefer. I can cast virtually the same stuff with both reels, but the Chronarch definitely wins on smoothness.

The rod would be impossible for me to choose, but the reel would be an easy choice. Daiwa T3 MX. I enjoy every cast I make with it

Alot of answers would be correct for this..

because no one action could efficiently cover all .. any one chosen would be great for one or two at the risk of losing a bite or hookset on the others

As already mentioned it's impossible to find one rod to handle everything. Power/action for different things. Same goes for a reel. Brand and model aren't the problem but the ratio/ipt would be.

That is impossible to pick, but if I had to have only one it would be a St. Croix _ __ and a Lew's Team __ w/ ____ gear ratio

7'6 redbone med spinning with a soron 40 reel and 15# braid.  Have used it for bass fishing in a pinch but I prefer a lighter set up, can take the same outfit to the ocean and catch snook, jacks and tarpon which is primarily what I use it for.

I can never tell if this question is really what it says, or is it, "What's the best rod and reel."  Same goes for the "If you could only use one bait" threads.

 

Anyway....90% of all bass fishing could probably be accomplished with a 7' MH/F rod, and a decent reel spooled up with 14-17# line.  It wouldn't be ideal for some stuff, but it could be done. 

I can't fish with one setup. Even while fishing from shore I carry five rod setups for all the different lures, the depths they run at and the different actions. The line test does influence how each different lure will run plus what depth and action it will have. My topwater setup, my jig setup, my plastics setup, my crankbait setup and my small lure setup are all different rod actions and different line tests. There is no way I can fish using one setup. I owe part of my success to matching the lure to the correct setup to use it. These are my spinning outfits. I'm putting together my bait caster setups now as we speak. I'm upgrading to better action rods more suited to my style of fishing. Little by little I dialed in my spinning setups now I'm working on the baitcasters. There is no way one rod setup can do it all

I would say bare minimum I'd go with two setups. A medium and a med/lite for smaller lures. As my fishing knowledge and skills advanced so did my rod setups.

If you would of told me at the start of bass fishing that my one rod setup wouldn't cover all the different styles of lures that are offered today I'd say your crazy. I found out the difference when I upgraded my line test I caught less fish to my lures having less wobble and action to the heavier line. Once I switched back the bite was back with my cranks.
