Can An A-Rig Setup Be Versatile?

Featured Replies

Question says it all. Really want to start fishing an A-Rig, along with some big swim baits, but the sheer cost of dedicating a combo just to A-Rigs and Swimbaits is pretty rough, considering Swimbaits are generally at least $30 a piece.

So the question is, what other techniques can an a-rig setup be used for???

Thanks!

I use three rigs for umbrellas, and none of them were bought for this purpose.  My flipping stick, a 7'6" XH, my swimbait stick, a 7'9 H, and a jig/worm rod, a 7'4" MH.

7'9" heavy veritas works well for smaller swimbaits a-rigs heavy jigs in general and punching.its a versatile rod.

I have a Dobyns SBMT795 For Bull shads with 25lb test.

I will use a Dobyns 766Flip for a-rigs.  It will have braid on it for flipping anyways.

I know people say that don't want to buy a rod for specific big lures but after buying the BullShad/Dobyns/Toro - it is all I want to through with the right conditions.  Well worth the money.

Okuma makes a big bait rod for around 130 bbucks its what i use for my a rigs and for my medium and large swimbaits up to 5 oz

A-rigs vary in design, construction and weight. A rod rated for the total weight of the rig can be used for other techniques throwing similar weight baits.

I fish my A rigs on the same rod I fish my swimbaits on, it works just fine.

Thank you all for the replies, I think I am gonna go ahead and scoop me a new combo now! I live in FL, so maybe a good punch rig for that ultra-heavy vegetation can double as an A-Rig setup.

One more question though: Will a low-profile bc suffice? I watch videos and almost all big swimbait/a-rig users throw them on round reels, but the Lews SuperDuty really catches my eye.

if you live in florida, like i do, make sure you get a long rod with broomstick action, very heavy extra fast rod. i use a flippin stick for everything and all my baits, we have alot of 10+ pounders down here
