That looks pretty cool. Let me know how you do with that.

That's cool! Is it pine?

maple. A little harder than pine and it holds up to long-term abuse better if you clearcoat it properly.

Get a video of it in the water if you can.

taking one tommorow morning with my gopro. I'll imbed it here.

That's a good looking bait! Are you going to paint it also or just seal it?

That is a great job, the build is nice and the action is spot on!! Don't think the top water bite is gone, I remember an old B.A.S.S. invitational tournament that was in November were a guy by the name of Jim Morton won on a buzzbait , it was cold as there was all kinds of bad weather but a buzzbait in November. If the water temp is in the upper 50s to low 60s, you can get a topwater bite and with that big rat I bet it would call up a giant looking for a big meal before the real cold hits.

it's already sealed ;) I like the burnt wood finish the loose bandsaw blade gave it. I just sanded it in spots and clearcoated it.

thanks haha I'll keep that in mind. Maybe if I fish it really slow midday I'll get one.

I was thinking it looked good just like that also. When a rat/mouse gets wet they get those light and dark spots depending on how thick the fur is in certain areas, probably gives it a pretty lifelike look in the water.

Wish i had time and patience to make one.

its a labor of love for sure. I start losing my patience occasionally haha. I was making a 7" shad yesterday and kept messing up from being overtired.

I think when the site crashed my post was deleted.  I was complimenting you on your rat, turned out great.  I also stated that if you don't have one already, you should invest in a Dremel kit for carving. Santy Clause might bring you one if you've been good. Post that shad when you finish it up.  :thumbsup4:

I have a dremel tool ;) I would buy a bandsaw but my mom won't let me because she is so overprotective. :(

Here's a 10" trout I made. HemoBass paintjob. :D needs a lip. I haven't quite mastered the art of lipless swimmers yet. I don't think the type of joint I used is designed for wood baits. I didn't account for the thickness of the paint and the clearcoat, so the joints are too tight and it doesn't swim. It will with a lip though.

Another rat. This one will be molded and put into production as a resin bait. Swiveling hook hangars ;)
