Fluorocarbon W/ Buzzbait

Featured Replies

Looking to pick up a cavitron 1/4 oz, and I want the low visibility of fluorocarbon. Will fluorocarbon sink the buzzbait or negate performance? I know line visibility probably doesn't matter as much with topwaters, but it's an in my head thing, and there is still some line in the water. Thanks for any help.

a buzzbait is a reaction strike lure. you could use glowing neon pink line and probably yield the same results from an invisible line. Braid works really well to horse fish from junkif you're fishing the bait near it. you don't want the buzzbait to go below plane so a sinking line would inhibit it's ability to stay above water if you aren't fishing the rod at 12:00. there's nothing wrong /w using a heavy mono for buzzbaits either. I LOVE fluoro but there's a few techniques where its just not optimal.

I watched a video of KVD fishing a buzzbait and it said he used 20# fluoro. That's gotta hold some sort of a candle to fluoro buzzbaiting?  :cut:

Nope. Flouro is fine for buzzbaits.

Mono for treble hook baits for the stretch.

The sinking property of flouro will have zero impact on a moving bait such as a buzzbait.  If it is what you feel comfortable with then by all means use it.

buzzbaits are one of those things where line doesn't really matter IMO. Use fluoro if you like but I wouldn't spend more money on fluoro that adds nothing to a topwater presentation when mono is cheaper.

Btw, KVD isn't god. ;)

I know KVD isn't god, but I know he's a renown fisherman and good at what he does. So if KVD does it, it must work, in my mind atleast.

You can fish a buzzbait slower with a floating line since the line isn't trying to sink the bait. But, the largest buzzbait bass I have ever landed was bank fishing with flouro, after burning the retrieve, I killed it 6-8 feet from the shore and she nailed it on the fall. I would ideally fish a buzzbait with braid and usually do just to get the slowest chug along but obviously it is not a hard fast rule.

Mono is the only thing that I use for trebles. Also, make sure to get quality hooks to avoid losing bass.

I throw a buzzbait with flouro.  I've never had an issue with it.

I prefer 20# fluoro for buzzbaits. I would recommend you try a 3/8 Cavitron before the 1/4 oz.  I have both, and I use the 3/8 oz. much more. I'll switch to the 1/4 oz. when I want something quieter, and a little slower.

Or he gets paid to sell certain things... Do you have a camera on his boat during tournaments? Is he really using fluorocarbon with his buzzbaits when it comes time to fish for the money.

You gotta take anything a PAID spokesman says with a grain of salt. Does he use fluoro with his buzzbaits? Probably, but you don't really know.
