So I saw the portion of BassResource.com that has the option to make custom jerseys.

Man I really want one, I think they look cool.....heck they're sweet lookin'

However, I'm a cyclist too, and I know there's a major "foul" committed if you wear the team kit of a professional team without earning it by actually being a pro. Most of us two-wheeled maniacs still wear kits that display the logos of various manufacturers of our equipment which is considered "acceptable" since it's not a team jersey per-say.

That said, would it be considered off-taste or gawdy for me to wear one of those jerseys even though at best I might fish 1 or 2 very small tournaments this year? I just like the look and would like to proudly display the names of the lures/rods/reels/accessories I use even heading down to a local pond or river. I just think they look cool.

Be honest, I've got thick skin, so if you think I'd look goofy then by all means tell me! Haha.... :)

Go for it. Its why they're there. Besides who cares what anyone thinks but you. Wear it with pride.

It's only gawdy if you are concerned about what other people think.  I say get it, if you want it.

You'll be fine as long as you don't wear lipstick.

I'm of the same opinion as FD, and Mark. Also, Slonezp's advice is quite sound. :)

I know what your talking about those are killer looking jerseys but I'm afraid you'd be one of those guys...

Maybe you could make a donation to BR and then Glenn could "give" you a shirt? Lol???

Why is it ok to wear a football jersey of your favorite team but not a jersey of your favorite fishing site? Its just clothes...

Your just showing support , that's really all , maybe some advertising as well , but none the less you are in some ways representing BR and it's sponsors , just like a uniform from work , if you are in public you are still representing that work place in some form , it's not Gawdy if you represent the jersey one would think , but really beside everything else , would it make you happy ? That's all that really matters anyway is it not ?

I think fishing jerseys are silly myself mainly because i don't see the technical advantage of wearing one.  Yeah it is cool to wear anything to show your support of a particular company/team/website but to me a T-Shirt does that better.

When i am fishing i want all my clothing to serve a purpose and being a kayaker i need synthetic light weight and breathable....other than cycling jerseys and synthetic t-shirts not many pieces of clothing fit the bill for me.

Fishing jerseys are 100% polyester moisture wicking material. The reason they can have dozens of colors and logos laid out on them through a process called dye sublimation. Arguably the most comfortable material to fish in. Its pretty much the same as your cycling jersey minus the spandex. So don't let that deter you from ever wanting to wear one.

i agree, if you like it wear it.

the worst ribbing you could get is being on a pond/small lake with one other guy and him saying "One man tourny today?"

realistically you'll get far more guys asking if you're sponsored.

i wouldn't feel bad at all saying 'not officially but these are the guys, co, sites i like to support'.

I have thousands and thousands of Dollars wrapped up into fishing tournaments. No offense Glenn, I've been around here awhile but... When someone wants to start paying me back or give me some kind of sponsorship, then I'll wear their name proudly and represent them with all I can. My kids have a couple sponsors for quad racing and they give the graphics on the quads for free and all the parts I need are at their cost.

No offense taken.  We made those jerseys available due to the volume of people asking for them.  There's a lot of people who want them, and boy do we ever hear it if we don't have them!  Same goes for the hats, shirts, etc.

Do I need to be an Under Armour writer or Columist be cause I tend wear a lot of their goodies this time of year?

Does the average college football or basketball fan need special permision or certain creditials before they wear a shirt or ball cap of their favorite school or team?

Is it enough that I have over 1500 bucks in Lews reels, or do I have to be a sponsored tournament angler before I can wear a Lews ball cap and put a Lews patch on my fishing shirt?

The way I see it, it is not tacky. It is one of your bass resource brothers representing OUR site. Glenn made this site for everybody that loves to fish and desires to learn more. For all we know a tournament angler, an old guy at the tackle shop, or a business owner may see the shirt amd log on for the first time and become part of this.... And even bigger, this potential new comer may add a lot of value to the bass resource family. Hell, it may even attract new sponsors to the site.

My opinion.

are you putting on that football jersey and stepping on the field?  For your sake, I hope not.

Sorry, but if I see a guy wear a biker shirt/ fishing jersey but aren't actually sponsored, I'd have a negative first impression.

What about those guys who wear military medals but never served?  Displaying national pride and attracting new recruits, or a toolbag looking for attention?

If I ever wear a jersey, it will be because I earned it.  Until then, I'll stick with BR sticker on my truck and hope someone I pass see's it and visits.

Hey, it's all good. Wear it if you want to.

I'm another guy who wears stuff based not on sponsorship, but on utility.

Hence wearing sun-blocking shirts with plenty of ventilation (in the warmer months)...

If that shirt happens to have a Shimano, Columbia, Bass Pro, Daiwa, etc., logo on it, then so be it.

My hats are usually Adidas, St. Croix, or XPS....

6 and 1 half dozen the other.

as if being a "columnist" for an athletic apparel company (?) or having "special credentials" for wearing a ballcap isn't a reach?

My comparison is spot on.

Wearing medals your didn't earn and wearing a jersey you didn't earn implies to others that you are something when you are not.  Nobody is going to see me in a nike shirt and confuse me with Phil Knight.

If someone added sponsors to a BR jersey, I wouldn't have a problem.

that's "my opinion", which was asked for by the OP, so stop with the snarkiness.

who cares what others think - if you dig it, then wear it..  I understand the points that are being made, not necessarily agree with them all..  Now, if I find a Reese's peanut butter cup jersey OR a Diet Dr Pepper jersey it's a done deal....long as it comes in a 3xl...  have fun with it!

Ok, I was reaching. and sorry for snarkiness. But it sounded ridiculous to say it was gawdy, but that if he wrote some Br articles or made some videos that it was ok to wear it.

Apologies pal

Thanks for the input guys. I've still got some thinking to do about it, but like many of you, I tend to err on the side of I wear what I like, I just wanted some input.

To those that inquired, I actually did write an article on here back in the summer, Glenn was kind enough to publish it on here, thanks Glenn. I wouldn't say I'm a consistently regular writer, certainly not a professional, and I've not made any videos, but I certainly am addicted to this site, and I recommend it to any and every fisherman I meet that will lend me an ear, to showcase it on any apparel I might wear would be pretty awesome.

I understand the point of not actually being sponsored, or as the cycling world would call it "earning it", but rather than this be for sponsorship, it would just be to showcase to fellow anglers the brands and manufacturers I consider proud to use. It's actually quite dissimilar to wearing a team jersey, and more similar to how I wear manufacturer displayed jerseys for cycling. Like someone mentioned, I have spent a good amount of money on fishing gear, probably far more than my wife would like :) so I feel it gives me just a bit of leverage to display their name, besides, I doubt I would hear them complaining about the free advertisment I'm giving them.

If the fabric is even remotely similar to what cycling jerseys are made from, it's some of the most comfortable material on the planet. It breaths well, wicks away moisture, and is generally great to wear from March to October.
