Guntersville During The Classic- Anyone Been To A Classic?

Featured Replies

I'm about a 3 hour drive from Guntersville and thought about heading down for the Bassmaster Classic this year. Has anyone been to a Classic before? Are they worth the trip?

Dinky has been a marshal in some of them.  He is slated to serve in this years classic at Guntersville.

I'm about 3 hrs away myself. I hope to get to check it out! I say it will be worth the drive!

I went to the Classic at High Rock Lake in about 2001, it was AWESOME!  I'd definately go back if/when it comes back near me.  Well worth the drive.  It has something for everone:

Free Tackle

Major Sales

Giveaways

Rebates

Autographs

Bonus Extra's for buying things

Bring a large plastic bag for the goodies and giveaways.

Bring a felt tip pen for autographs on your hat or shirt.

Bring a camera or cell phone with a camera for photos with the pros.

If there are giveaways my wife would love it.

She gets every freebee offered at Speedweeks in Daytona.  Then she wonders what she will do with them.  They usually end up as stocking stuffers for Christmas.

Was surprised to see that the weigh in is at Birmingham, not too close to Guntersville...I had figured it would be at Huntsville...anyway, I can't find info on the website or the event that tells where they will put it, etc, to fish so that spectators know where to go watch the fishing...or can you not get anywhere close to them during the event?

Plus one to what has already been said. I take vacation to go to the Classic & FW Cup each year. The freebies are many, autographs and pics are easy to get plus you get to see a lot of the new gear not on the market yet. Last year in Tulsa, I got to spend about 20 minutes talking to Ray Scott. He had a booth selling some of the books he had written and it was near the end of the Expo on Saturday. The stories he told were priceless and the number of pros that stopped by to see him were endless.

The year I went I wore a backpack and filled it up by the end of the day everyday.  Gamagatsu had a free 2 packs of 5/0 EWG at their set up, which I probally brought home 30 packs a day, I had free hooks for the year.  I got autographs of probally a dozen anglers too.  Now my girlfriend is excited to go.  She wants to see the shows, lure demonstrations, free samples, buy some soft plastics by the pound, etc. That reminds me I found some small 3" flukes from some small manufacturer there, that sold all their baits for $4 a pound.  I bought 2 lbs, and caught tons on those little guys.
