WOW - that is GREAT news - thanks for posting Dwight.  The Swiss Watch of round reels to get even better...

I'm about saturated with Calcuttas/Conquests right now (I'm up to 9) BUT, I will have to get at least one of these - ESPECIALLY if they ever bring out a 50-size.

I wonder if they will have the sideplate access to the brakes like the current Conquest?????

Maybe the calcutta d got enough backlash because of the braking system that they decided to scrap it

The Calcutta D was never meant to replace the Calcutta Conquest. Its actually a step lower in the Shimano round reel lineup.  They just updated the D first.

Oh I assumed the conquest and calcutta where two different lines. I thought they were updating both of them

Isn't/wasn't the Conquest JDM only?  I realize that might change this year but do we know if there will be a US release?

  • Super User

Conquest has always been JDM - the closest equivalent in the U.S. market was the (discontinued) Calcutta TE-GTs (50, 100, 200 sizes).

It WILL be interesting to see if they release the 2014 Conquest on the U.S. market.

Wow, That thing looks beautiful. Reminds me of a pro gear but star drag and level wind.

I am kinda disappointed that the gear ratio has been slowed down to a 4.8 on the 100's and 5.2 on the 200's when they could have increased it to a 6.x:1 or 7.x:1 with the extended gear box design.. Maybe they will release a 50 size later and hopefully with a faster gear ration (and therefore LPT).

The gear ratios are a tad lower, but the spool diameter is probably a bit larger than the current 100 and 200 Conquests since the listed 59/60 centimeters/turn still gives IPTs in the 23" range as on the current models.

A big X2 on an option for a faster ratio.  While the current ratios in the Calcutta/Conquest lines are OK for what I use the reels for....I have always wanted a 50- and 100-size with a 26-27" or so IPT.  One can hope... ;)

Oh yeah with a curved handle to boot.....

Probably one of the reels I'm most excited for this year. Although I will be waiting for the 50 size.

I can't wait to get my mitts on one.  I don't have a huge JDM assortment, in fact I think it's limited to 9 reels.  These, however, are supposed to be the bees knees.

Might have to get a 101 to feed my addiction until 2015 for the 51  :respect-059:

I must admit I have a weakness for the 50...The Twins

The Three Amigo's

and now the Wait. Not to mention a 100 or 200 may show up at the door while waiting.

Not as fancy as Maico1's...but I have a couple 50-size round reels as well...

Anyway, I'm first on the pre-order list at Japan Tackle for a 2014 CQ100...and that will have to do until next year for a 50 ...   ;)

Goose,

Nice to see you enjoy the 50 as well....

There is nothing not to like about the Conquest 50 IMHO!

You guys are killing me !!

Really regretting selling my 51 shallow special....

51's are sold out on Japan tackle, none on eBay or rakuten... The 51's have dried up :(

Now John the only thing missing is a 50DC..nudge ,nudge...

I am still thinking about it. I just bought a third Conquest 50 from Japan Tackle. I just checked EMS and it has already left Tokyo. Either the top water rig or a 50DC will be next.

Just curious,  what do you use more, the regular 50's or the dc model's ?

The DC for sure very smooth operation...I use both models for plastics and jigs up to 1/2 oz. mounted on GLX BCR 803C (Std.) and the DC's on a NRX JWR 802C and 803C. I must say before the 50DC came out the nons where always in my hands and now they are second choice. Then again I like DC reels been using them since they first came out and find them a whole lot of fun to fish with.
