Methylate Question

Featured Replies

I had some extra ca$h from this Christmas, a couple of gift cards given to me by some folks. I got some JJ's Magic, in clear and methylate.

I am wondering, what will the resulting color be using methylate on green/pumpkin and black/blue craw trailers?

I plan on dipping just the tips of the claws in, but I don't know what the end result of color will or should be, and when to use it?

Thanks for any tips!

I imagine it will end up looking like a rusty, brown color if it turns out to look like orange spike it does.

Hard to turn darker colors with spike it or jjs magic. i use it on watermelon, white, green pumpkin, pumpkin seed, etc not much effect on black or junebug etc

ps be careful with jjs its very volatile if it gets too hot plus it really stains things permanently and its stinky lol

If you put it on watermelon or green pumpkin, it will put a pink haze on the bait that really doesn't show a whole lot. I've never fished with just methylate though, I always dip it in chartreuse after to make it bright orange.

Just try it on some old ones. And see what you come up with! I like to play around with the JJ's when we have hard water! Back to the basement and see what I can come up with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick update....

I got the bottle of methylate and tested it out on 4 different colors - brown, green pumpkin, black/blue, and white pearl flake

You guys were right on the money.....

The darker colors (brown and black/blue) showed nothing

The green pumpkin also showed nothing

The white pearl flake became a soft pink color

Either way I like the garlic dip, and I've also got a bottle of clear.....so in effect I now have 2 bottles of garlic dip that don't really change the color of the bait.....which is no problem for me.

I've never tried a scent dip but I've heard great things about them, and I've heard JJ's is the standard, so I'm anxious to see how it turns out.

Bring on spring!!!

Didnt want to start a new thread, so I'm resurrecting this one ?

Does anyone have any pictures of a methylate dipped white senko? My local river bass love merthiolate color and I was trying to make some with JJ's and white GY senkos.

If it just turns pink I'll order bubblegum senkos..

Why not try merthiolate colored trick worms?

Because I have trick worms already, just wanted some 5" stick worms

My local Rivers have alot of pressure, and everybody throws trick worms. Something different such as a stick bait in the perfect color would make a difference..

That is an outstanding idea.  Please let us know how it turns out.  Better yet, I am going out to the garage and starting on my own!

Well I got impatient just placed an order with tackle warehouse for couple packs of white GY senkos and JJ's methylate dye. I'll know soon enough if my plan was a success..
