Hey fellas,

There's a fishing expo where I love right now and they are selling Pinnacle Perfextas for 40% off! I have been reading about these rods and would just love to purchase one to try out. What would you guys recommend I get next? Spinnerbait rod? Soft plastics rod? I'm not a really big jerk bait fisherman so I'm not really interested in a jerk bait rod. I'm also a fan of micro guides but I don't mind the regular Perfectas without the micros... I say this because they offer different actions in each style...

Spinnerbait/jerkbait/topwater rod for sure. I'd suggest something in the 6' 6" to 6' 8" M or MH/F or XF action and a reel with something like a 6.2:1 gear ratio. I know you said you aren't a jerkbait fisherman but that kind of rod would fish the spinnerbait and topwaters fine and then would handle the jerkbaits if you needed a rod to fish one.

Thank you so much RW! I actually picked this rod up on Friday and fell in love with it.... I should have pulled the trigger then. I hope it's still there today!

I agree with Bluebasser86 on a rod for topwater.    M/XF 6'6" to 6'8" are good.   (you want an immediate hookset, and the shorter rod gives better accuracy and gives you room to work the baits).

 

I would go with a faster reel (at least 7.1:1).....because you want to take up slack between twitches.

I'd say you need a dedicated soft plastics rod (6'8" - 7'1" MH, Fast-extra fast) to go with your jig rod, but that's what I fish the most besides jigs. Pair that baby up with a 7.1:1 reel and off you go. Can double as a good spinnerbait rod too.

RW thank you for your recommendation. I picked up the exact rod you suggested and it feels unbelievable in your hands. It is unreal how light this rod is... it's so light I'm scared it's going to break on a big fish! I have a St. Croix LTB MM ($250) and it's going to be fun comparing the two; so far the St. Croix seems to have more backbone, but I'll have a better comparison this Saturday when I get on the water. 

What expo is it? I am in SC, and that deal sounds like it's worth the drive.
