Out of all those, I'd say Chronarch....but having said that, maybe you should wait until the Curado Is are released?

My personal choices would be 5 or 6, and I'd add Pinnacle and Lew's offerings in your price range to your total list.  Be sure to check the prices at http://www.beatthebigboxboys.com/ before you commit.

The tatula is a good caster but my curado 50 casts just as good. The new Curado I is coming out this Friday, and if its anything like the Metanium its gonna eat the Tatula in casting distance. And its right in your price range.

X2. Exactly what I was thinking. Ron may still have that Type R for 155 TYD. Give him a call.

I own 3 and 6. Both really nice, though you can't go wrong with a chronarch. All products I have bought from Shimano have been supurb.

T3 ballistic is 150$ at TW, the handle on them is cheap looking (unless you get the 8.1 gear ratio) but its performance is top notch. Its breaking system is amazing as well.

I have the Tatula R and the revo STX. I love them both. I also think if I were you I would consider Lews. Probably the BB1 Pro or Tournament pro. I have the regular tournament on the way.

Quantum Smoke, and Energy are good reels, I also like the daiwa t3-b in this range along with the tatula and type r  are pretty sweet as well. This price range is way too competitive to pick just one the lews offerings are great, and the new curado looks like a stud. the new *** reels look interesting too...

Welcome to the Forums!

I'm interested in the Pflugers as well!  But, start doing some poking around on the internet and you can find those reels for cheaper!  Pick one that is comfortable to you.  Buy it, catch fish, and post pictures!

Thanks for the replies guys. Also thanks for the recommendation on beatthebigboxguys.com. This is my first time buying a ''expensive'' bait caster so I'm trying to get all advice I can before making a purchase.

I bet you would have to work hard to find a reel between $150 and $200 that wasn't pretty good.  Some will be better than others, but all should get the job done without much fuss.  On your list I would be leery of the SX, but only because of all the threads I read on how hard it was to dial in the Gen 2 reel.  Was a great caster when dialed in, but seems quite a few people couldn't get it dialed in right.  I assume that is no longer a problem with Gen 3s, but haven't had a reason to researched it.

Would you be willing to buy used?  Got to tell you that the flea market forum has had some really great deals lately.  A couple that caught my eye were a Sol for $110 and 10 Zillions (all in very good shape) for $150.  That is a great price on those reels in that condition.  There have also been some Gen 1 and Gen 2 Premiers at very good prices.  However, what really upset me was a new (or like new) Purple Alphas for $175 that didn't get posted until after 1 a.m. and was sold by 3 a.m. or shortly thereafter.  :sad78:  All of those reels are very good reels.

There are tons of great options in that price range.  I primarily use the lews line.  I would look at the tournament  pro.  I don't own any shimano, but I'm really interested in the curado i.

I would see what Ron from Valley Sports could do for you on a Tatula. I don't think the Type R is worth the price from what I have read.

I have Chronarchs and I like them but if you want to buy a new Shimano, wait for the Curado I. No harm in having the latest and greatest, right?

For what it's worth, I very much like my SXs.

I have 1, 2, 4 and 5. Plus I have various Lews. Each one is dialed for a specific use on different rods. I use the Lews Team Golds for lighter baits and the others for mid to heavy baits. I like the Lews that's why they are used on the lighter baits. It took me several trips to get the STX dialed in.

I bought my sons Tatula Rs as gifts. I might get some for myself.

I have 10 Academy Mettles too. I'm surprised how much I like and use them.

How do you like the Pfluegers?

I think you've picked out some great reels. Imo, best bang for your buck is the lews tournament pro which can be found for at or under 150

Sorry on delayed response. Contrary to my wife's opinion I don't spend 24/7 on my iPad. Pflueger Patriarch gives you more precise adjustments.

You need to be able to fine tune reels with every adjustment possible when casting light baits in windy conditions. Otherwise it doesn't matter all that much. I do like faster gear ratios for most applications so that determines what I'll buy from now on.
