I'm confused about the true Braid to mono equivelant. I'm reffering to Power Pro Braid, on Cabelas website, Power Pro says that the ratios are:(braid:mono)     15:4  20:6   30:8 etc... However Shimanos website contradicts this. Shimano says that a 2500 size reel will hold 140 yards of 8 lb. mono but only 95 yards of 30 lb. Power Pro. If the ratios were correct than the reel should be able to hold the same amount of 8 lb. mono as 30 lb. braid...Any light on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently they used 45 yards of 8 lb. mono as backing.

There isn't any standards that apply to line diameter verses strength rating, each mfr differs. Look at the line diameter listed for the braid you use; 30 lb Pwer Pro is .011d, Trilene XT .011= 8 lb test. Looks like Power Pro used Berkley Trilene for a comparison.

I had the same thoughts man. I have a 1000 size shimano that says it will hold 270 yards of two pound mono but only 95 yards of 10lb braid. 10 pound power pro supposedly has the same diameter of 2lb mono so what gives?

I dunno how they make those recommendations but honestly I wouldn't worry to much about it put 75-100 yards of braid on and go fishing.

There are more important things to stress over.

Since the beginning, braid manufactures have been under stating the size of the braid in comparison to mono.

I suppose it would be nice if it were actually a little closer.

If you are really concerned about line capacity, such as using your reel in saltwater, this is an issue that Shimano should get right.

The 8lb rating is based on Japanese line, which is true to the rating. Power Pro ratings are based on American 8lb test, which is a thicker diameter.

Don't recall too many reels of any brand where the stated line capacity was accurate.  I've had reels spooled up with a line counter at tackle shops and the numbers were off.  If planning on using 100 yds of braid on a 2500, probably won't need as much backing as you may think, don't spool right up to the top.
