Dunked A Reel

Featured Replies

So today during my tournament I dunked my LTB and Lew's tournament mg should I clean it or do you think it will be alright? The water was clear if that matters.

I'd think it was fine we used to dip the old Abu round reels when they started to whine but it made the reel junkie in our club cringe

Clean it. Dunking a reel in wAter purposely or not is not good for it.

Il clean it then no use messing up a 130 dollar reel I'm just glad I didn't lose a 350 dollar combo

It should be fine. I would pop it open and make sure there isnt any water inside. Take a q tip and clean it out, then re-oil and grease everything.  Ive dunked reels before and done nothing about it and theyre perfectly fine.

That's what I was planning on doing

Clear water doesn't mean the water is clean, I'd service the reel.

This is the answer^ If it were me, I'd have the reel professionally serviced just to be sure.

You' re ok short term, as in using it the rest of the day is there is no obvious grit or noise but it should be deep cleaned (stripped to the frame, degreased and relubed) at your earliest convenience.

I already cracked it open this morning and did a full tear down also looked into another and realized that blood had gotten inside of the frame so cleaned that one as well along with the others that I fished with that day

Lol I was In a tourney and landed the fish in my avatar and as I was unhooking her she thrashed and stuck me pretty good with one of three trebles on the Smithwick deep diving rogue (man those things are sharp) anyway with adrenaline going from catching a 5 pounder on the third cast I didn't really pay attention to it and went back to fishing only to realize I was bleeding when I saw blood on the frame 15 minutes later lol
