So How Did You Meet Your Significant Other?

I had known my wife for six years before I "met" her.  She was a freshman and I was a senior at Westport High School.  I dated one of her friends, but had no romantic interest in her.  Fast forward six years.  I was watching the tractor pulls at the Westport fair when a cloudburst sent everyone scurrying for cover.  When the rain stopped, I got out of my car and headed for the pulling track.  She was coming out of the school.  When I saw her it was magical.  I went over to her and asked if she'd like to go for a burger.  She had come to the fair with her parents so she had to let them know she'd be going with me.

We took a ride to Cape Cod.  Found a burger joint, and on the way home we stopped at the large parking area beside the Cape Cod Canal.  Eleven months later, we got married.  It will be 49 years in June.  If it hadn't been for that quick downpour.....................................................?

My best friend growing up had a family vacation cabin in LaPine Oregon. I met DD there when I was thirteen years old. We actually began to date when I was sixteen. We have been married for almost 41

^^I've heard that rain was a good thing

My wife and I met in an AOL chat room about 13 years ago mi February and went on our first live date 13 years ago on Tuesday

When I gave the room my a/s/l (age/sex/location) which was common courtesy in chat rooms she pm'd me advising that she lived in the town next to mine.

We chatted for a week before she would give me her phone number when she did finally give me her number I called and we talked for hours each night the first few days and so I asked her out on a date she was hesitant because you know you don't know who people really are from chat rooms

I kept suggesting we meet for coffee at a Dennys or some other public place that we could meet to assure her I was an Ok guy.

Finally she agreed to go out with me and we met at a local bar by my house and the rest is history. We dated and that August I asked her (after asking her dad's permission because I'm old fashioned) to marry me. Married the following August and over 11 years later we have 2 boys (7 and 4) who love to go fishing.

wow.  What are the odds of that happening?

We do bring that up from time to time. What if one if us weren't on line at that very time?

We're just glad we were both online that day

The digital age.  I think it's pretty amazing that so many people have met their significant other online.

That really blows my mind for some reason.

My wife moved into the house across the street from my parents when I was 14. We dated for a year in highschool then when I joined the army I foolishly cut ties with her. When I came home (medical discharge 2 years into my career for a heart condition) she was seeing someone else pretty seriously. I spent the next 3 years trying to convince her to go on another date with me. Finally, she let her guard down and gave me a shot.  Fast forward 4 years, we have two beautiful children and just married in november of 2013.

In a police lineup.  She was the one shouting "Turn to the left!"

What number were you?

Which time?

Good one.  Nah, great one.  One of the best comebacks I've ever seen.
