Improvement At Dicks?

Featured Replies

I was at Dicks sporting goods earlier today and they renovated the fishing department and it looks really nice. They got a lot more stuff and variety, especially on the rods and reels. Most surprisingly, they now have megabass and a good variety of them too. I don't know if it's just that one particular store, but figured I share just in case anyone wants to check it out.

DSG has bumped up their fishing gear like crazy. Mine now carries Keitech stuff along with Megabass. They totally overhauled the fishing section. Love it because that is all I have nearby.

Which Dick's Sporting Goods store was this? I was at the one in Burlington NJ yesterday but I didn't see any Megabass.

yes it was a nice little surprise and unexpected. I was able to control myself and not purchase anything.

Wow, I need to check the two close to me. Last time I was in each, they were "Fair-to-Midland" as they say in TX.

The DSGs here are usually "ok" in fishing gear, not great. I'd love to see them become a better competitor to BPS, but that's a tall order, as DSGs is all sports, not just fishing and hunting.

haven't been there in a few months im guessing your talking about the cross gates mall. good to know our dsg stepped up there game, to be honest i thought they always had a pretty good selection of baits.Cant wait to go splurge with the bait monkey/

I prefer Academy also for most items. That being said, at least in my part of Dallas/Fort Worth, Dick's is close to Academy on price (usually about 50 cents more) but has a better selection on lures and terminal tackle. That being said, both of them are far better than the Cabela's in Allen or the Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine or Garland, which are typically $1-2 more on most items.

I'll have to check it out.

My cousin was "The Lodge" manager for a few years. He said they bump up the fishing selection early spring in anticipation for the season and to be reasonably competitive with their competitors, but he assures me that come fall, the fishing will take the back seat to hunting equipment.

I for one hope they keep up the inventory. Part of the reason I survive through winter is by going to stores, dreaming of warmer days, and satisfying the little baitmonkey sitting on my shoulder. :)

Very store to store dependant around here. Some are good, some are okay, some are terrible. None are great.

The biggest improvement they could make is too fire my ex so I could shop there again. I miss Dick's... wait that didnt sound right.

Same at the Paramus Dick's. Really made it purdy. Always had good tackle even before this.

Our local Dick's is sparse on fishing gear, but they did just open up a Field and Stream close by. Granted, it ain't no BPS, but It's a great alternative. Also, they have a lot of stuff that we don't have at BPS.

I sure do like their red dot sales. You never know when something is going to get mark down.

The Deptford store has one of the best selections for freshwater gear along the East coast in the dicks chain. I'm friends with one of the managers there. Dicks as a whole got some new buyers in corporate which is why the selection is now what we actually want.

The DSG by me are hit or miss depending on which one you go to. The one in Orange Park said that something happened in Atlanta, maybe that's where their main warehouse is idk, and as soon as that gets sorted out they will have more rods, reels, lures, etc.

They just redid the fishing at the DSG near my house too, I picked up a couple cavitrons today.
