Watched the video by Glenn about spooling a spinning reel correctly.

 

I've never heard of the bit about dunking the spooled reel in super hot water. But I did it, soaked it in hot water for about 5 minutes.

 

Went fishing today with it and noticed that the spool memory was very slight, and what memory existed was the size of the reel spool.

 

Very impressed, even in a pretty solid wind today I got no knots or tangles, which to be honest is a rare occurance for me!

I've been using the warm water method for years.  I do believe I always spool correctly but that isn't good enough for me.  After spooling and before fishing I ALWAYS troll my line out.

I didn't experience any negative issues from it. I was careful and removed the drags and any other parts before I did it, then dried it off very thouroughly.

 

I fished for about 5 hours yesterday with it and didn't notice any problems at all.

Correct, take the spool off, remove all parts that you can possibly remove, THEN soak it. Should've clarified that

I soak the filler spool with KVD L&L, and that's about it. I let this dry before filling the spool. I reapply after filling the spool, and after every trip.

Remember, when you remove the spool from a spinning reel, you have to take the drag tension knob off. This also exposes even so called water proof drag systems. It may not be a big deal, but you'll want to let it dry completely before using it.

You can achieve the same effect as soaking the spool in hot water by soaking the filler spool in hot water before loading your reel. I've done this in the past.

It is my understanding,  that the reason you use hot water on the spool after spooling is to "reset" the memory of the line from filler spool to spool so the line does not "roll" off of it. 

So fill the spool with line soaked in hot water.

I agree with Francho, my sop has always been to soak the filler spool before spooling up the reel.  As I said before I always troll the entire spool before I fish, the line as far as I can see can't get any better.  My line is also trolled out after I fish, so I'm ready to go for the next time.  If my line is limp and not coiling I won't re soak it, if it coils I will.
