I fish a jig and craw quite a bit. I never really tried a texas rig, rage rig or jighead with just the craw. Any conditions when one would work better than the other?

Great question. I, too, fish a jig a lot and wonder if I should be throwing a t-rigged craw or jighead craw.

Nope, they are just different presentations. What I particularly like about the Rage Rig

is the way the Craw or Lobster seems to float down. The appendages wiggle, but the

body stays horizontal for the most part. If the bait falls withing striking distance, you're

going to get bit! 

 

I prefer them on a shaky head/stand up jighead over T rigged.  I like the fall presentation and how the craw points up from the shaky head over a Trig unless I'm fishing in the weeds.

 

That rage rig is deadly over the tops of grass, dropping down weedlines, or dragging over lay downs from what I've found.

I have some 4" Guido bugs in black with chartreuse claws, these are one of the few craws I Texas rig and pitch to cover. The reason I do it is the bug isn't good on a jig but it does work great in thick weeds, especially in clear water, it is a big fish bait and in clear water I prefer a T-rigged plastic over a jig most of the time.

From my experience, I catch more numbers on a rage craw t-rigged, on bare jig head, or rage rigged than I do with a true jig and craw combo.  But, on average, size is bigger with the true jig and craw combo. 

True jig being a jig with a skirt, then a false jig must be a jig without skirt! Interesting concept.

False jig with a craw falls faster and goes through cover easier and has a smaller profile than a true jig, often triggers strikes when bass are keying on any of those characteristics.

I love throwing the Rage Lobster on a texas rig.  I do it with any craw plastic. Anytime I would throw a creature bait, I wouldnt mind throwing a craw on a t rig.

I like throwing a plain craw or creature bait instead of a jig when the weeds are thicker and clingy, seems to accumulate less grass than a jig.

I'll use the jig vs. T-rig in timber or rocky cover and when conditions call for flipping or pitching, or in place of a C-rig.  I'll use the T-rig set up when casting weed edges or tops, or when the fish are more lure shy as they can pick up the craw without feeling the weight or on those rare outings when my concentration isn't focused solely on fishing as the fish seem to hold onto the bait longer then.
