Chatterbait Rod?

Featured Replies

Ok, So i like Dobyns Champions for my bottom contact rods, but o can not drop that much $$$ on a moving baits rod rod maybe when i get a full time job but not right now.

Used for Spinnerbaits, chatterbait and SwimJigs.

there are my choices,

- Pinnacle Perfecta 7'MH

- Duckett Micro Magic 7' MH or H

- Powell Inferno 7' MH

-  St. Croix Permier 7' M

going to get a Savvy or just use my Champion that i use for t rigs

I do like the ECS Real seat vs the ACS real seat but both will do fine.

Im leaning towards the duckett but not sure...

I have a 734 Champion that is the cat's meow for chatterbaits.

However, for light/medium wire hook swim jigs, its a little too heavy.  However, I still use it and catch fish.

I would recommend the 734, but in the Savvy line.  Very versatile stick, IMO.

I do not have any prior knowledge of the rods mentioned by the OP as I use an *** for my spinner/chatter bait rod.  I will say however, that in my opinion with a moving bait, less money is needed to be invested in a rod.  Again, this is just my opinion because you're going to feel the strike more than likely, especially with a chatterbait, they'll slam it and it's not like you wont know when your being bitten.  Just take the reel you intend to use with you to the store, mount said reel, and see which one truly 'feels' best in your hands.  Rods are purely subjective in that certain rods will feel good to some while others will be put off by the rod.  Anyways good luck on the search and tight lines!

I use the 733 (savvy would work fine as well in 733) for both swim jigs and chatter baits. I fish northern style 1/4oz swim jigs more than any other weight of swim jig and 3/8 vibrashock bladed swim jigs just about always. Rod is perfect for both. I hear ya on the ECS. I cannnot stand ACS or sk2.

I use a Duckett MM 7' MH for chatterbaits i think it handles wonderfuly for chatterbaits and swim jigs

the only thing is if the chatterbait or sj bite is off and i need to throw a T-Rig or something and i dont have the rod i need. i want it to do that also and i heard that the savvys arent sensitive at all.

I use a 7'1" *** *** MH/F .. Love that rod, and it's not expensive

The savvy is sensitive, just not as sensitive as the champ or champ extreme. If you are using braid or fluoro, the savvy is a good rod.

I also use the 734 but this is more expensive than the other rods you mentioned. I would go at least a MH. Of what rods you mentioned, the perfecta I supposed to be a great rod.

How does the savvy compare to the ***? I really wished i liked the handle/Reel Seat of the *** because there great rods but i just love dobyns a little bit more, i need to win the lottery! LOL.

Go with the St. Croix Premier. You'll have a good rod for your extra t-rigs then too.

Among the the dobyns line the Savy 734 is a great rod for those three baits.

I sold my savvy for a *** black, the *** is much better IMO .. More sensitive and way cheaper..

I've been looking for another chatterbait rod, and I'm really interested in the Kistler KLX Blade/Chatter/Buzz rod.  The only thing that scares me is the MF rating.

I currently have a 7'1 ***, and I like it....but I'm looking for something with just a little more sensitivity for ticking the tops of the grass.

not on your list, but an abu veritas 7' m mod-fast makes a fine 3/8-1/2oz spinnerbait rod.  i'm sure they can be had pretty reasonable used.

I use a 6' 6" MH/F St Croix LTB with a 6:4.1 Lew's Speed Spool for my bladed jigs and it has been fantastic for them.
