Bass Pro Shops Rant I Just Dont Understand It.

Featured Replies

As others have said, when you find something that works that other brands dont make something similiar, stock up. I currently have 14 poppers in a brand that was discontinued by Wal-Mart/Sports Authority three years ago. There is a lake I fish in the northeast that they kill it, and due to the pike in the lake I've lost a lot of them.

I noticed that BPS discontinued their Tornado spinnerbaits despite many 5 star reviews.  Anyone else ever use these?

I hear ya, Bigbill...

For me, though, BPS has kept my favs -- so far.

I was disheartened when YUM discontinued their Zoom

Finesse worm lookalikes in their watermelon gold flake.

Nothing I've found yet works as well as that worm (for the

finesse variety).

I like Bass Pro. I shop Bass Pro. If it weren't for me getting their catalogs every other week I probably wouldn't have strayed into the deep end of fishing "seriousness"

That said I have 2 rants with Bass Pro.....

1. Their sales. They may be good prices and such, but look at the items, I bet in any given sale they've advertised 70% BPS branded items. Now I'm not a guy to get hung up on name brands, and being in retail management, I understand house-brands having generally better profit margins. But jeez guys, put more name-brand tried and true stuff on sale. It wouldn't kill ya.

2. Their shipping. I've used everything from their 2-day shipping to the free stuff, and none of it even comes close to TW. I don't know if it's because they use FedEx or what, but I can generally count on it taking 2-4 days longer than a comparable order from TW, another half-country away from me (Central IN)

Rant over.....now....to place my BPS order :)

Sometimes it is over 70% BPS brand items!

If you ship-to-store, it's all good. Well, sort of. Yeah, not

usually 2 days...

Nevermind. Carry on with your rant........

New Top Knockers (heh :unibrow: ) arrived from Germany. Looks exactly the same as the old Top Knocker except these are a slightly smaller version. Guess I will have to keep searching for the full size ones.

Brown one is my old one. By far my oldest lure with the most fish to its name.

Found out they are discontinuing the Heddon Poppin Image Jr, so I hit up Amazon and ordered a few in my go to colors before they disappear or those "hard to find" sellers try and sell me a $6 popper for $16.  But I feel your pain, I loved their Hula grub beaver style baits, then they were discontinued.  Found the VM brand on TW, well their gone now too.  That bait was my go to bait under tougher flipping conditions when they wouldn't eat a regular beaver style bait but would crush them.

I dislike bass pro shops because they can't keep up with all the new things. TW indefinately, forever. Plus 15% military discount is nice ;)

I just use the site to store option so I don't pay shipping anyway for anything I order. They price match Gander and Academy, and when the Cabelas gets built in Bristol they will match them too. It's just funny that BPS gets called out, yet 99% of online sites are just as or more expensive than BPS.

Huh?? Couple examples: SK KVD 1.5. TW $5.49. BPS $6.39. Project Z Chatterbait. T.W $7.99 BPS $8.99.

Stanley Top Toad. T.W. $5.99. BPS. $6.99. Just a few examples of an order I just placed. Everything was more at BPS and only one item was the same.

B.T.D. and L.B.F. are among several others that are priced lower and also have a better selection. I think BPS is more expensive than 99% of all the rest. Well maybe not 99% but quite a few. It is nice they are just about everywhere. I do like to see and feel certain items, rods, reels, new lures etc. before I buy.
