When is chrome or gold the go to color of choice? It seems chrome with black and chrome with blue are very popular.

Any info would be helpful.

I like chrome with a blue back any time, but it is best for me in clear water and stained water.  Gold works for me in slightly muddy water, but not the really chocolate milk water.

Not sure but I know one weekend on the susky we couldn't buy a bite unless it was a chrome crank. Tried every other color but no dice....

I'm a huge fan of chrome crankbaits. SK KVD 1.0 and 1.5 in chrome sexy shad and Spro little john MD chrome olive are my two favorite chrome colors. They really work well when the bass are feeding on shad, any time you see big schools of shad tie one on.

This is what Dr. LOREN HILL said about bass seeing certain colors at times. And other times they can see all the colors. Due to certain light and water conditions.

On a tough day of fishing color wise I throw fire tiger or firecraw. After my ritual of baits catching nothing. I purchase every color of crankbaits. I have all the bombers, the Norman fatboys, the Norman thin N. I admit I'm a color freak. I carry every color and most color combinations in my 9606 crankbait tackle box. I have chrome, gold, etc too. I will fish till I figure out what lure color, size and action catches fish.

Blue is another hot color. They say under certain water conditions blue turns Brown. All I know is the rapala original floater F7 in blue does catch fish.

Gold has been great to me on sunny days in dirty water or cloudy days in clear water. 

I use chrome w/ a blue back in sunny or partly sunny conditions.  Chrome seems to catch fish when nothing else will.

Chrome in bright sun, Gold in over cast.  I keep limited colors but each in  multiple sizes and depths, tight and wide wobble

There are only two lipless crankbait colors that exist in the world.  Rayburn red and chrome. 

Sexy shad is my go to, because it's in my opinion the most versatile color. It looks pretty natural so it's good for clear water, solid white so it performs well in stained water, and it has some chartreuse in it so it could even pass as a bluegill if that's the primary forage species. Chrome with a blue back is DEFINITELY in my top 5 though. I don't know why I don't throw it more often, because I probably have the same catch rate on it as I do with sexy shad.

Rapala rippin rap gold chrome!!! I love this lipless.

I reach for a gold cotton cordell lipless everytime there is a slight stain and sun. it really throws the right amount of flash in the muddy water its a total confidence bait

Thank you for all the info.  Ill be buying a few crankbaits soon.

Profile and action are hugely important in cranks when it comes to getting bit.  Color in cranks is hugely important when it comes to getting them out the store front. 

 

I have my confidence colors and won't buy cranks that don't come in colors I like but I know d**n well my preference in colors is not based on any facts and is based on belief. 

If you dont have chrome/blue back and gold/black back baits in your tackle box, you're not a serious fisherman.

Chrome/blue back only works for me when the sun is out.  Cold/black back is better in muddier or more colored water.

Bill Norman "Little N's" use to be made in gold plate w/black back. I wore out (plating completely gone) 2 of those purchased in the 80's. Still have 2 left but they're getting pretty "ragged" as well. Bass love to chew the plating off! Wish I had a nickle for every bass & northern pike I've taken on those little lures. We call them our "Little Goldies", which we rarely take out anymore for fear of loosing them. Great lures.

Cotton Cordell has a their Super Spot in a color called Royal Chrome. It's got a purple back, chrome sides, and chartreuse belly.  They also have Royal Shad too which is also offered in the Xcalibur line and the coloration is the same but with white sides.

Chrome purple is a staple of mine in early spring on both shallow cranks and jerk baits.

I really like natural and translucent colors but there's just something about chrome on a high sky day that produces. Gold on cloudy or dirty water days has done well for me.
