10Lb Sunline Sniper On A Symetre 2500?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if 10lb sniper would work well on a 2500 series shimano symetere?

Will the line jump off the spool or get a ton of line twist being a higher lb test?

I believe the line is .0102 diamater and the 7lb is .0093

Is the .0009 really going to make that much of a difference?

Id opt for 8 at the most on a spinning reel. I use 6 and 7#.

I use either 6# or 8# on the smaller #20 & #25 spool spinning reels I use the 10# / 12# /14# & 17# on the larger #30 & & #40 spool spinning reels.

I just purchased the US REEL SUPER CASTER spinning reels with the larger diameter spools to see if they will add to my casting distance. I'm looking to cast past my target area and bring my lure more stealthy into the target zone. Like cast past the pads and walk my spook into the targeted area. Sometimes being sneaky pays off too. Other times it's the splash of the lure that draws attention.

The reason I want to use 10 is bc I throw dropshots and shakey heads around some heavier cover and don't really feel comfortable using 7lb

Basically just wondering if I spool it correctly and use kvd l&l am I going to run into major issues?

you might. I've honestly never tried 10# fluoro on a spinning reel.I've never wanted to. I fish shakey heads and drop shots through zebra muscles and wood on the mississippi on 7# fluoro. you'll be fine..if you REALLY want to use larger line, then use braided line /w a larger 12# fluoro leader. Sniper does have a smaller line diameter than most line companies in the 10# range but, personally, i'd just opt for straight 7# or braid + larger leader

10 lb. fluoro on a spinning reel is generally no bueno. 2500 size, you "might" be okay. I'd opt to drop shot with braid and a leader myself.

Line twist and coiling are 2 separate issues.  The spool sits parallel to the rod, the line gets wrapped around the spool which is fixed, line twist is the nature of the beast, I troll my line out after each outing.  I think you may get some coiling with 10#, I'd spool on a little less on that should help a lot, hot water or line treatment helps too. Heaviest mono or copoly I use is 17# on an 8000 reel, I've used 20# too heavy for my taste.  Coiling occurs frequently, hot water is my salvation.  I do not use straight f/c, I will use a f/c leader with braid.

Max distance is attributed to the rod loading up and the type of lure being used, I have 2 wide spool spinners, they about cast the same distance, one may see a better line management on a wider spool.

10# on a 2500 will be fine.... I have done it without issue.

take these precautions:

1. use line conditioner

2. make sure not to overfill the reel

3. catch hawgs

The KVD line conditioner requires several hours to work and I don't like it, prefer using a wet conditioner called TangleFree and apply as need while fishing. The Super Sniper in green may be a better choice and I don't think you will have any problems using a 2500 size reel with 10 lb that has the same diameter as other brands 8 lb. I use the 10 Super Sniper green on my baitcasters, very strong line and doesn't have a lot of memory, however more than mono.

Tom

Tom, I have seen you mention the tangle free before and meant to try some.

thanks for mentioning it again!

If it were 10lb mono, like super natural, you'd be fine. I would advise against putting 10lb fluoro on there because it probably will jump off. You could try filling the spool about 3/4 full and it might help, but then you'd lose casting distance. I have 8lb Sniper on my Stradics and Sustain, that line works great. I even used my Sustain last year on a catfish trip, because they wouldn't bite unless you had really light line. I didn't even retie after 2 days of fishing. The 8lb Sniper held up extremely well.

Do you realize how strong 8lb Sunline is? I've seen 18lb hybrid stripers caught on 6lb Sunline and that fish took him through a brush pile! You are fine with 8lb
