When I use Ragetail Toads and hollow body frogs like Spro's in lilypads I usually just real straight in and stop at edges and then continue reeling. It's worked pretty good.

 

 

 

However, I was wondering if people walk-the-dog with their frogs over lilypads. This sounds like it would be hard because it's not regular water where it's easy to walk-the-dog.

I walk the frog in the pads all the time. Find the breaks inside the pad fields and work the frog, til you get out of the field. Hooking up in pads can be challenging. Many times the fish can be lost and you are left fighting a lily pad. Lol..

I don't walk the dog in pads, what I do is I "chug" the frog by giving short upward pops and concentrating more on steering the frog to those small openings as well as the flat pads for the frog to sit on while I pause it. When I pause the frog on a pad, I wait 5 seconds and I give it a quick hop off the pad, I have had more success doing that instead of easing it off like some but I work the frog like that until I hit open water and that is when I begin to walk it.

Absolutely.

Lou and Smalljaw have it right..You can change it up and combine what each do on the same cast or subsequent cast's. Rarely do I just reel across a pad or grass field for that matter.

Since you're having success doing it that way now, certainly don't stop, but try what they said also.

I tend to hop the frog on the pads. Using the rod just as I would while walking a frog in the water but with slightly more exaggerated movements. It makes the frog move in a realistic manner over the pads and I can steer it towards the holes. When I get to a hole, I'll back off a bit and walk it through the holes.

I walk it through - and have had a bunch of great blow-ups.  I have had exactly ZERO hook-ups with soft frogs, however.

I'm the exact opposite almost. lol. I have caught a few in lilypads on hollow bodies, but it's only a few. Caught a ton on Ragetail toads though.

I just hop them frogs like the real thing.

Either walk-the-dog or hop it along. Both work well. 

I'm primarily a frog walker.

I walk them in more open areas, with thicker vegetation I chug them to make more noise and bring more attention to the frog.

Try not to overlook the opportunity to make your cast ONTO the bank if possible.  I have had some great bass slam the frog after dragging it from the bank to just barely wet.  Especially if there is heavy vegetation very close to the bank.  Weightless worm is also good for this.
