I will be going to a lake in northern Minnesota in a week. I've fished it once a year for two weeks since I was 8. Recently I've become a lot more interested in bass fishing. So now I am wondering what lures would work better. The lake is small but holds a ton of bass weighting up to about five pounds. It's very clear with lots of reeds and pikeweed. The max depth is around 30 feet. For baitfish there are perch bluegill and little minnows. Spinnerbaits have always been great here with chartreuse and white skirts. I would like to see what you guys say I should also use

Your confidence lures should work just fine.

I fish in northern MN and I would recommend anything that mimics a bluegill. Especially right now during the bluegill spawn.

Swimbaits

Poppers (around bluegill beds)

I grew up in northern Wis.  I really believe that for the average fisher person, not avid bass anglers, more bass, there, have been caught on plain old nightcrawlers than anything else.

Not from Minnesota, but our Northern waters right now are very clear and probably similar in water temperature. Your choice of spinnerbait would definitely be a choice of mine.

Also, right now we're post spawn for the most part. Jigs, swimbaits and punching through slop can be the ticket. Of course, always have a senko tied on if you're not having luck figuring out the bite.

Have Fun...Throw Topwaters and Floating Jerkbaits in early morning and even during day around cover, buy some new soft baits and have fun since Northen lakes are fun to fish as most have hard bottoms, rip rap, clear water, and you can use almost any method you want....Get some Frogs for any lily pad fields, weeds, senkos, rage tail worms, flutter spoons, and try the techniques you want to get better at.....

 

I grew up in Ny and during early Summer nothing used to beat a Gitzit 3" Tube or 6" Ribbon Tail, Finesse worm on a texas rig, and I always killed fish in ever lake or pond on spinnerbaits, and zara spooks, chug bugs.....

If there are any humps or points, I'd target them first. Search with your sonar and pay particular attention to those structures that appear to have bait around them. Don't just look for fish. Good Luck!
