Gary Yamamoto is a genius. The man created the perfect lure. Supremely effective with built in obsolescence. Thus, you have to keep buying his product.

 

Similar to beer, you have to keep replenishing it. It's not a permanent lure, it's a temporary one. Whether you lose the lure on a single fish or on a simple cast you will lose them guaranteed.

 

 

So yesterday I'm fishing and killing them with cinnamon Senkos and when I ran out, green pumpkin Senkos. My brother joins me and catches 5 fish, 5 fish that threw the brand new Senko each time. I went through 2 bags of Senko's in about 10 minutes. I ordered a bulk pack of Senko's from Tackle Warehouse in Green Pumpkin but didn't order more until I'm confident in that color. Cinnamon has always been effective for me. If they had bulk Senkos in cinnamon I would have bought 2 packs.

 

 

So, it's a love-hate relationship with Gary Yamamoto for creating such an effective lure!

 

 

 

 

Now to the thief part. I hate thieves!!!! And this fish was one of the most prolific ones I've ever caught. I caught this bass and when cleaning him found 4. Four Senkos in varying degrees of digestion. Two look like they are the same one broken in two but they are in fact not the same one. Luckily I was able to take this one out of the lake and hopefully save some fellow fisherman some grief over lost Senko's. Take that Gary!

Yeah, I was wondering if he would eventually pass it or die from them if he wasn't caught.

If you are not tourney fishing and they are biting that well, switch to a cheaper knockoff bait.

 

If texas rigging try a twistlock hook or wacky use an o-ring for more durability.

 

I make my own with a special additive and get 10-20 bass on one bait. I have caught up to 50 on same bait.

Agree with the post above. I rarely use Yamamoto Senkos anymore. There are knockoffs that are much more durable and catch just as many fish. 

The quality on the laminated ones are really bad too here lately and for 8$ a bag they better be perfect....

When I use Senkos, depending how they are rigged, I usually don't lose them.  I do however see a lot of guys toss them in the lake after they have worn out.  It has always been a pet peeve of mine, that you should toss used soft plastic in the trash instead of the lake.

Another thing that kinda gripes me is on 3" 4" 5" all same price... 3" should get 15 they are all same price... Then 6" you get less but pay more,

They have gotten expensive but you can get them cheap if you keep your eye out for them when they are on sale.  I usually wait until Dick's has them 2 for $10 or 2 for $12.  Then I use a $10 off of $50 coupon .That's ten packs for around $40 ($4 for each pack).  I can handle that.  But at $7.50 a pack, I am going to think twice.

The o-ring rig helps with wacky rigged Senko's and the worm saddle works better but cost more. I use a lot of hand poured soft plastic worms and they tear easy, but out fish the injection molded worms, cost of catching bass!

I don't wacky rig them very often and when I do I have bag of o rings I secure the worm and hook to.  They do brake easier when they are wacky rigged though.

It's not breaking them that's the problem. It's them being tossed off while fighting a fish or on a cast.

If you wacky rig a senko it's coming off lol. Before I started using hair bands and o-rings I learned quick that on a very hot day a senko or ocho will fly right off the hook on a cast! I do think super soft baits like senkos and ochos get you a few more bites so I look for deals on them and try to stock up on sales but by no means are they necessary to catch fish. A Big Bite trick stick will put fish in the boat no problem and so will the skinnier finesse worms rigged wacky which come a lot to a pack even in the Perfect Plastics formula.
