I've been throwing a C-rig a lot lately and I was thinking about buying a new rod and reel combo specificaly for C-rigs. I was thinking for the rod: a 7'2"-7'6", med heavy power,and fast action tip . And for the reel: a 7.1:1 gear ratio, spooled with 17 lb. flourocarbon line. what do yall think? What needs to change?

Depending on how heavy of rig you are throwing and the depth of water you may need to step lithe rod up to a heavy action.

max depth is 20 ft and max weight is 3/4. but average is 15 -17 ft. 1/2

MHF will be fine.

I would use a heavy power rod for that. Actually, I use a heavy power rod for all of my carolina rigs. My exact setup is a 7'6" heavy/mod fast with 16 lb Sunline Sniper FC and 14 lb Sufix Seige on the other end of the swivel. Along with a Curado 200HG. I find that a c-rig rod needs more backbone than a medium heavy has because of a longer sweeping hookset, maybe that's just me though. I've never had a problem using a heavy power rod, but to each his own.

Rarely use a traditional C-rig, hate the 3 knots needed.

If you are not using braid with a FC leader try a slip shot rig;

3/8 to 1/2 oz black Top Brass Pro Jo cylinder weight.

8 mm glass faced bead pegged for a weight stopper or Carolina Keeper and glass bead.

Owner #5133 hook, size 1/0 or 2/0

14 lb Sunline Super Sniper or equal line.

This rig uses 1knot.

7'6" 5 power, moderate fast action casting rod. Longer rod is easier to cast longer leaders.

High speed reel is good or a round reel with larger spool is good with over 90' of line out.

7' ~ 7'6" MH fast rod should work fine for dragging 3/8th oz to 3/4th oz egg weights on 15 ~ 20lb. fluro / co-polymer line ... Unless you are C-Rigging on Clear Lake in Cali or the Big O in Fla ... When I think a 7' ~ 7'6" H  action rod - I'm thinking flipping into the DMZ for bass who are wearing black pajamas !

3/4-1oz mojo sinker.

Its a perfect c-rig set up (IMO) and I have used it for years now.

I usually C-rig with 3/4-1 oz and a prefer a H/Mod F. MH will work fine for what you're doing. The fluoro's a good idea for abrasion resistance.
