Hello! I'm expanding into frog lures for bass. I see a lot of different brands. I fish three lakes that are calm, heavily weeded underwater, and no real floating lilies or vegetation. It is pretty stained as well. There is also a river that I fish connecting two of the lakes. I have looked at some popper style frogs and some regular style. I think I'd like a few to start. Any thoughts on what I should buy? I have heard some take on lots of water but don't know which to avoid either. Thanks!

Koppers for a regular hollow body. R2S Spittin Wa for popping style. Rage toad or Ribbit for soft plastic buzz style frog.

I really like the SPRO frogs, I throw the popping style one a good bit

Spro Bronzeye Frog, Jr, or Popper. If money is no object the Megabass Pony Gabot frog is exceptional

I've had loads of fun with the very inexpensive Scum Frogs.  They cast well, are durable, and apparently look good to the bass in my area.

I have had very good luck with pad crushers. Big bass love them. They are a bit longer then most other hollow body frogs making them easier to walk.

Deps Slither K if you want the best. A cheaper option is a Pad Crasher or SPRO frog.

I've been throwing pad crashers and livetargets (medium size).  I found the live targets rolling over thick pads a lot, so i picked up the larger size.  since it is wider, I am hoping it will not roll as much.  I haven't tried the spro i picked up recently either, but so far the pad crasher is the winner!

My two favorite brands are Spro and River2Sea. I prefer Spro overall and think the original Bronzeye 65 is still the best frog out there. R2S Bully Wa frogs are a close second in my book though, I can't wait to try the new Bully Wa 2.

Thanks! There seems to be sort of a small, medium, and large size option for a lot of these. What would be the advantages of the different sizes? Should I just go medium until I see what works? Or is it that small are for panfish, medium for smallmouth, and large for largemouth? Or are they just frogs and it really doesn't matter?

That Bully Wa 2 does look interesting. It is supposed to has a tube or something internal that keeps water from filling the frog. I would like one too I think.

Paychecks baits transporter frog. It pops and spits.

Spro bronzeye. Great quality, cast ability, and colors. Snag proof is another good brand for slightly less $.

I have been using the Jackall Iobee frog for a few years now, one of the easiest to walk frogs out there.  I also use the SPRO Bronze Eye Frogs on occasion.

Spro Bronzeye frog, shad, and popping frog are all great. 

The koppers are no doubt best. Best combination on the market of durability, good strike to hookup ratio, walkability, and lack of water retention (they don't take on water too bad till really tore up). Booyah's bad crasher and the spros are good too, but not on the level of the koppers.

Well for inexpensive walking frogs my favorites are probably koppers and spro bronzeyes. Not super keen on too many poppers in this range though- the spros are good but not amazing.

If money and shipping time is no object and you want walking frogs, hands down slither k and kicker frogs- both regular and popper style. They really are the best by far. Best colors, actions, construction and details are perfect and the hookset percentage is far higher than their cheaper cousins. I've pretty much resigned to selling off all my "normal" frogs to focus on these and a few others.

Also the new combat frogs from lunk3rhunt are fantastic. If you've got big fish to go after, this is a fantastic frog- not a walker though- more of a tug and pause, tug and pause kind of action but it works very well to have a look like that in your frog box to go to when the walk isn't getting it done or the fish are used to it. I also keep a 1/2oz original lunker frog in green tea at all times in my box. Love that frog for certain times.

I like the Strike King KVD frog, and the booyah pad crashers. Both offer great bang for the buck. Each one has a niche for me. I like the Strike King over mats and in thick weeds, it "pushes" down on the mat a little more, has thicker plastic, and has a rattle. And I like the booyah for more open water work, it is super easy to walk, and is softer. As for colors.... Give me something with a white belly, a black belly, a chartreuse belly, and a translucent color and I am all set.

Exactly what he ^^^^^ said. To the OP you also asked which frogs to stay away from. In my personal opinion, stay clear from ***. They look good and the moving legs may be enticing, but after that they can't compare no where near the quality of the above mentioned frogs. Again... just my personal opinion. 

Koppers hollow body, R2S Spittin' Wa for popping, and Zoom Horny Toads or Strike King Rage Tail Toads for swimming, depending on how much action I want and what speed. 

Like many others, I'll admit that the Spro Bronzeye and the Booyah Pad Crasher's are nice. 

 

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention the *** Lunker Frogs. They're the most realistic looking frog I've ever used, they work great, the hooks are very sharp right out of the package, and they're very soft with a good hookup ratio as well.
