Rod's Breaking?

Featured Replies

I know all manf. have rod's break but it seems the majority I have seen on FB and Instagram and other sites is a Duckett rod. Is this just simply QC issues or what? I've never had a rod break but a buddy had two MM Ducketts break on em. And he is a fanatic when it comes to taking care of his gear

It's not bashing at all by the obvious information I provided before I stated the company name. I understand any rod can break but I was just pointing out the majority that I see seem to be Duckett rod's. Posted this to see if there was any info on if they had a manf. issue that was resolved or if the new rod's being produced are still having the same issues.

I broke two rods this year, neither was a Duckett.  That help?

like jfrancho, i've broken 2 rods this year.  both from my own idiotic doing.  neither of which were ducketts.

i think the user comes into play with rod breakage much more so than the components of the product.

Ok that's understandable. I am not bashing this company at all that's not who I am. I was just asking because in all honesty I understand rod's break and I'm one of those that say's its consumer error, just for some reason I seemed to see alot more of this specific brand than other's. And it wasnt as if I was seeking that outcome out. Sorry if anyone feel's im ruffling feathers!

I have broken every brand of rod I have ever owned. St Croix, Loomis, Fenwick, Abu, Berkley, Shimano , Kistler, BPS, Cabelas, and Gander mtn store branded rods, Quantum, Daiwa, and probably a couple I don't even remember ..... Heck I even broke an ugly stick once about 20 years ago. I will probably break more. I am not worried about it.

Whether Duckett rods break more, or not, it's comforting to know they have a 20 year warranty on their product and a fantastic customer service team.

I've broken a few fly rods, but have never broken a spinning rod.  And I just started using bait casting rods this summer and they're both still intact.  Of course, I just jinxed myself in a really big way....

I know what you mean about the broken rod stories, though.  A couple of times, I was just about ready to pull the trigger on an *** or Duckett and the seemingly large number of broken rod stories in the customer reviews section made me hesitate.  But you know what they say about reviews... the majority of satisfied buyers usually don't bother to post one.  The smaller percentage of folks with bad experiences are the ones who tend to post.

Tight lines,

Bob

Rods don't brake unless there is a flaw to start with, other then that it's normally user error from something stupid we shouldn't have been doing.

I have broken a few rods in my time. I would like to think it just happens but sometimes it's just user error.  One thing is for sure, all manufactures can make a bad rod.

Don't like to create bad karma by discussing good or bad past experiences.  Knowing what you are doing when hooksetting or attempting to land a fish is going to be beneficial in the end.  Got to know your limits and the limits of your equipment.

I broke two Cabela's Tourney Trail rods last year.  One was mostly operator error as I cast at the same time that a buddy did and our rods met in midair, mine broke, his didn't.  The other one just broke inexplicably while I was fishing on a hookset.  I think the Tourney Trail rods are really nice for the money and thankfully, both of mine were replaced under warranty, but there's a case of a few rods breaking that weren't Ducketts.

Like anything else that's mass produced some rods are never right in the first place and others are so badly abused its only a matter of time. My very first trip of this season a fellow fisherman broke his Veritas rod after doing some "tree fishing". While he falls into the abuse category I've had two quantum rods that have had the reel seats come undone this year from normal use. Anybody that fishes long enough will eventually have a defect or make a bone headed mistake and break a rod. Duckett is a hot brand right now of course people will be letting everyone and their brother know if something breaks or isn't the greatest rod on the market.
