Not yet, I'm guessing they've just been released?

To be honest, I almost forgot about them since they

were announced at Icast...

Interested in how they feel given the marketing hype.

What!? I just got my Ugly Stik GX2 just last month...lol. Always something new and better I guess. :Idea3:

you can catch fish on a stick and string too.

I have nothing against ugly sticks, I use them for catfish and wipers, but I much prefer my nice bass rods when I'm that's what I'm chasing. I enjoy it more when I'm using them and that's what I'm out there to do.

Nobody is upset about anything.  This is a bass fishing enthusiast site and for most of us, bass fishing is our main hobby.  Most of us like to use the best gear we can afford, it has nothing to do with whether or not we could get by with less.  Ugly Stik's don't get much love here because not many of us use them, it doesn't mean we give a flip if you do.

true we all have what we like ..and im not saying U.stik are greatest.what i find funny is when someone post about them i hear many say there is better. But when someone breaks 2 or 3 high dollar rods there are 60 pages about how bad or good costumer service is.And they blame ,bush, fish,or whoever. But no one dare say anything bad about the big 3.I love fishing and as long as im not complaining about breaking my rods 20 times a week.im in a win win situation.

My grandpa uses an ugly stik and he catches plenty of bass on it, I haven't used it enough to really have an opinion but it seems like a decent rod for the money.

I don't think most folks are complaining about their rods breaking, but rather are sharing information. Customer service feedback is important as well. Of course ugly stix will leverage fish. Contrary to what most people think, they fail as well, most of what I've seen are guide failures, lots of them.

Ugly Stiks aren't as sensitive as other rods and they're heavier. Doesn't mean it's a bad rod though. I use one quite often. I have a 7' M that I use and I've had it for as long as I can remember. I've caught plenty of bass on it and also plenty of bluegill and catfish. Whenever I'm fishing I tend to grab my better rod and reel combo (silver Quantum Accurist on a 7'3H Abu Vendetta. I know, I'm cheap.) because it's lighter and more sensitive. Doesn't really matter what you fish with as long as you have fun. If you can't afford gear go break a limb off of a tree and borrow a line and a lure.

I think different people just look for different things out of their gear.  Some want the best money can buy, while others want something that will be durable and generally a good value.  Most of us probably end up somewhere in the middle.  Nothing wrong with any mindset, so long as you enjoy what you're doing.

I handled these Ugly Stik Elites the other day at the local big box stores, and I must say that I was surprised at the quality of the rod. It honestly seems to be a rod that can be utilized in a workhorse or all around roll and you can almost certainly believe that it will not break on you being an ugly stik. The tip or taper was surprising fast as well, much faster action than the gx2 line and I own one.

I will definitely be putting some consideration into buying one of these during this off season.

Like Big Pond, I was able to handle these

at Bass Pro a couple times in the past week.

They're actually pretty decent rods for the

money, much lighter than any before it. For

me, personally, they are still too tip-heavy

for my liking. I've been spoiled by the BPS

CarbonLite rods.

And I even got hands-on with the new Shimano

Crucials and wasn't impressed. So hey, all of

us have our own likes/dislikes when it comes to

rods. The Ugly Stik Elites will no doubt make

some very happy. They're definitely a departure

from what they were in the past.

If they're light, somewhat sensitive, and tough, they'd be a great car rod.

  • Author

yes, francho it seems like Ugly Stik finally has a lighter weight and more sensitive rod, taht is to say comparable to what ugly stik usually offers. Definitely a great car rod hands down
