To me it looks like a shiner of some sort, i caught a bunch of them on trout spinners in the Pemigewassett  River in Plymouth NH. If anyone has any ideas I would be curious to know!

Looks like a gizzard shad to me.

Gizzard shad has a black dot behind the gill plate.   Might be an American Shad.

Something in the chub family, or related minnow species.

Looks like an average creek chub to me

I call those river minnows or dace. I have caught big ones close to a pound.

Thanks for the feedback guys I appreciate it. I caught it in fast moving water near a lot of logs and wooden debris.

Yep, it's definitely a chub of some sort, which are nice looking fish. Gizzard shad are oval shaped and grotesque looking in comparison.

Creek chub. I catch them all the time in my creek.

Sure looks like a fallfish to me.  It's a type of chub, and the bane of many a flyfisherman who are after trout.  :-)

It's definatley a fallfish I looked at some pictures online. Thanks for the help guys!

Fall fish I catch them in the river by my house they get pretty big and fight pretty hard. They also bite in winter so it's fun when ur not catching any thing

Chub

Fallfish, creek chubs often have a black stripe down the sides, similar to a largemouth bass, and they have much smaller scales when they're that size.

What else am I supposed to do Jan-Feb when the water is hovering just above freezing and the rivers have chunks of ice floating around in them?

I believe his name is Bob, although he prefers to by his birth name of Roberto...
