New Bps Catalog

Featured Replies

Just got the new catalog, and in the Shimano section, no B series Calcutta, no E series Chronarchs, no Cores, and no Stellas. Either Shimano is doing away with a lot of stuff, or the new catalog is sorely lacking.

Last years catalog did away with some of the technical specifics of rods and reel referring you to their web site.

You already got the new catalog?

I got the new one last week. I have no use for it, but my son really seems to enjoy tearing the pages out of it.

Got it yesterday.

I'm trying to get away from using bps personally. I only go there to look at fish and pick up bps brand things I like, such as their kermy frog. But it is nice to have the catalog laying around in the winter

I'm not a fan of the Kermy. I do like their other house brand stuff.

Same here (in mail yesterday). Noticed the same

thing you did. But then I also noticed as I was

flipping through, other items that are new in-store,

but not in the catalog - like the Ugly Stik Elite rods.

So I'm wondering if it is a case of not enough room,

or did the company pay enough to get a full spread

of all products in the catalog (assuming there is a fee

for featuring)...

Although the Chronarch E series are not online, either...

I keep one alongside the Sears catalog in the "Johnny on the Spot" in the back 40.

I don't see the CH E on the BPS site either.

They did away with other companies higher end stuff as well.  It's not just Shimano.

In the catalog, but on the site the higher end baticasters were still there..but no Chronarch E.

chronarch e was on sale $149 last time i was at cabela's..... may be discontinued.

They don't have lots of things in the catalog. The only thing I looked at was the swimbaiting section and it's a laugh. I also flipped through reels really quickly. The personal reviews they add make make me laugh. The revo MGX has one next to it that say something like "I love this reel!" After reading that it's settled. My next reel is going to be a MGX.

The bass pro catalog has been worthless for the last three years. No specs, full color charts, or full listing of rod models etc.. They just want you to get on their website. My bps catalogs go directly into the garbage now where they belong. It's a shame because I used to love getting my new master catalog in the mail each year.

The cataloges from BPS have become more of a -(in general or what we might have) thing. The catalogs from years ago had way more specific info.

That thing would be 2000 pages if they put everything in it. Wouldn't that be sweet!

I would love to know how much it costs BP to print and ship out all the catalogs they ship out in a year--I guess it must pay or they would quit sending so many--I must get some kind of catalog at least once a month and that does not include the master catalog!  I know they are losing money on me because I have not requested or bought anything from Bass Pro for at least 4 Years and they still keep sending them to me

Yep. It arrived on the 31st.

Now you have something to look forward to receiving in the mail this weekend.

Kadas, I was thinking the same thing earlier this year when I received three BPS catalogs at different times.

In fact, adding the 2015 catalog into the mix I received three and they sent one to my wife plus a marine catalog.

I did not include the smaller "Bass Book" that BPS also sent me in 2014.

I guess they have me on the "sucker" list.

The Bait Monkey approves.

What's a catalog?

Ahh... you younger guys don't know how good you have it with the Interwebs and all.

In "the old days," the catalogs were where you saw everything that was out there; especially if you lived in a rural area with no big sporting good stores nearby.  You might read about new products in the outdoor magazines, but when the big catalogs came out, you could look at the detailed descriptions, color choices, etc.

Most of the companies put out a big spring fishing catalog and a big fall hunting catalog listing ALL the stuff they offered.  I guess that wouldn't be very practical these days.

You kept these big catalogs in a safe place and referred to them frequently, dog-earing the pages of the items you planned to get on your next order.  Way, WAY back when, you even MAILED in your order!!!

I'm not really that old at all, but this has been one huge change to the way outdoorsmen purchase their gear that I've seen in my lifetime.

Tight lines,

Bob

Their catalog, and to some extent the stores, have gone down hill.  The two I visit use to carry all the high end stuff; rods, reels, etc. You could find every high end rod from Daiwa, G. Loomis, and St. Croix, all the newest reels, and huge selection of expensive crankbaits, but this has not been the case as of late.

They seem to be pushing their BPS branded stuff by eliminating the better items from top name brands.  This seems to be evident in their clothes as well. Based on what I have seen, I am not sure what direction they are trying to go.  It is still fun to visit though.
