How Many Of You..........

Mine was also a #7 Original Floating Rapala. I lost it the same year (1964) to a nice walleye.  That was the same year I got hooked on artificial baits and that, a Lazy Ike, a Daredevil, and a Mepp's spinner became mainstays in my tacklebox.

I figure my first bass was on the old hook and worm????

My first bass on a lure had to be a rooster tail in either yellow or black. We would go down to the creek and throw these all day. They catch anything that swims.

Lost it years ago. A orange Rooster Tail. I put it my pocket one day when I was about ten y/o. I had to cut it out with scissors which left a hole in my shorts pocket. I forgot about the hole and put a $10 bill in the pocket to ride rides at the fair. Needless to say, I lost the $10. Lures have been costing me money every since, lol. I think the Rooster Tail ended up in my pond.

I caught my first bass slow rolling a Strike King 38 special through lily pads in a farm pond.  Blue and yellow skirt with white blades that had silver flake on them.  I still have the bait.  The skirt band has since rotted. I keep it in a zip lock  bag in my man cave.

If I still had the lure that caught my first bass, it would be about 65 years old today
It was called a "Creek Chub Injured Minnow", it's now a collector's item, but was similar to today's Devils Horse (propbait)

Back then, those who were fortunate enough to own a boat usually owned a rowboat complete with oarlocks and oars.
When we stopped to fish, the oars would be sitting in the water on both sides of the boat. Soon after catching my first bass,

I whacked one of the oars on my backcast, which busted the Injured Minnow in half (it went from injured to dead).

This was around 1950, a time when plastic plugs were slowly replacing wooden plugs, but the first plastic plugs

were from hunger. Many of the vintage plastics had a weak seam joining two halves (not along the length, but thru the center).

My Creek Chub plug broke in two halves, the fore spinner attached to one half, the aft spinner attached to the other.  :mad10:

Roger

I hope it was plastic.

I caught my first on a Heddon Crazy Crawler many moons ago...don't have the lure, but a great memory instead.

Hahahahaha!!! It sure was! It was one of those really cheap plastics that come in the little spincast combos. The worm is so stiff that I'm surprised it even caught a fish!

I'm fairly confident it was a beetle spin and it's long gone

I'm almost certain my first bass was caught on a twin tail Yamamoto hula grub t-rigged with a very small bullet weight. My dad used to fish the James with his brother all the time and once I was big enough to go (probably 6 yrs old) I would go with them. We slayed the smallies on those hula grubs!

I dont remember the first bass I ever caught , but it was probably caught on a white marabou jig .  I caught lots of fish on those jigs when I was a kid back in the 60's

That's pretty cool with it being that old!  I don't have my first bait but I do have the bait my dad caught his 15.2 out of the back of my boat on!  that was cool!

Did I miss something?

1/4 oz. SK Bitsy Bug, blue/black with a 3" Powerbait grub. The fish was roughly the same size and weight.  :wink2:  Lost it later that same trip.

But I do have my boys' first-bass lures tucked away.

Same here except mine undoubtedly went to the great tacklebox in the sky.

First largemouth I remember catching was on a live crappie minnow...so no I don't still have that one.hahaha.the first one I remember catching on an artificial lure was on a 6 in. luck"e"strike curly tail worm in electric grape.i think you can still get them at wall mart... :bushy-browed:

first bass was on lite live frogs the first lure was a 3 inch berkley pearl white swimbait

My first bass came on a baby bass Strike King Bitsy Minnow... still have it, although it took 5 guys, an oar, and a paddle boat for me to get it back from a tree once.
