How To Fish A Roboworm?

Featured Replies

I got some roboworms for Christmas. I've never fished them but see one of the most popular ways is to use it on a drop shot. I don't fish drop shot. Can they be used on shaky heads? Or do you have another way to rig them?

Shakey, t-rig with a 1/0 light wire hook, or learn to dropshot.

For the longest time, I only thought of Roboworms as a drop shot bait.  Then late this summer for a reason I can't explain, I tried the 6" model Texas rigged with a 1/8" tungsten sinker.  I found it effective when fish were in a neutral mood & hanging out near docks or other shade in 2-6 feet of water.  They accounted for about 1/2 of all the fish I caught the rest of the year, including the 8-0 in my avatar photo.

dropshot

What do you have against the Drop Shot ?  Tons of fish caught on that method and not just little ones.  My two biggest have come on DS.  BTW there are many variations that could not be considered finesse.

This nails it !

You really should learn to drop shot. What is preventing you from doing so?

Can you drop shot from the bank into max 5' of water?

Slider rig, drop shot, mojo rig, t-rigged with a small hook, shakey head.  Mojo and Drop Shot are my 2 preferred methods.

You can, but it depends largely on the bottom.  Casting out from the bank may give you too much of an angle for the DS to do you much good.  And snags, weeds, etc. could make it more trouble than its worth.  Try it.  If it doesn't work, you may be better off with spit shot, mojo weight or weightless.

Absolutely!  It is not a vertical-only technique.  I thought that too, at first.  With a 2" tag line, that thing is just like a t-rig with more action. Let the weight stay in place and ever-so-gently shake the slack.  It is killer!

I got some as well and will be putting them on a shaky head this spring. No doubt about it!

shakey or DS is mostly how I use them

Yup ... found a video which does a decent job of describing what he is doing.

I have had success with very short leaders (aka Zero-shotting I believe) up to about 6 inches.  After that it gets difficult to manage from the bank unless you are in an open area.

Good luck

Big 'un thanks for the video. I'm gonna try DS this Spring.

I love Roboworms!  When I use them I split shot them.  I usually save them for last when the bite is tough.

You can't fish it wrong as long as you fish it slow.

Though I do believe I may have heard that before.

Exactly!! maybe split shot rig too. I use them only for drop shot and sometimes shakeyhead.

The smaller 4.5 curly tails are excellent on a split shot rig.
