Angler nabs new lake record fishing on 2,700 acre state park lake in Louisiana.

Reports started coming in Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, that an angler had caught and weighed a 14-pound bass in Louisiana. We were pretty excited because we love big fish stories.

According to the report on Louisiana Sportsman, David Houston of Winnsboro, La. landed a 14.08-pound bass from Poverty Point Reservoir, a 2,700 acre lake located in Poverty Point State Park near Delhi, La. The fish was weighed on certified scales. The crazy part was it was bigger around than it was long. It was 23 1/2 inches long with a 24 3/4-inch girth.

There aren't many details about how it was caught or where on the lake but there was some uncorroborated reports that it was caught on a plastic worm. A quick view of Houston's Facebook page, and we saw he caught a 10-pounder last month.

The fish is the new lake record. The previous lake record was 13.06 pounds caught in 2012. For more details on the fish and the catch, see this article on Louisiana Sportsman.

Congrats David on an awesome bass!

That is a freak of a fish!

Sam, I assume they adjusted for the weight of the plastic container.  Otherwise, that fish only weighs 13.08 lbs and is a dink.  :eyebrows:

I would think they adjusted for the weight of the basket.

Seems people who weighed the fish knew what they were doing.

But it is Louisiana so who knows???

Wow thats a hog!

I have never caught a bass whose girth exceeds the length ... but I'd very much like to...

Great fish!!

That is a truly fat bass. Probably stuffed itself so full of Louisiana crawdads that if it exhaled, it'd lose 5 pounds :).

Most of the time we refer to them as footballs, but that fish has surpassed those dimensions. Incredible fish!

WOW! Congrats to Mr. David Houston.  I read on the Louisiana Sportsman site that it was caught "on a Texas-rigged tequila sunrise Yum 10-inch ribbontail worm".
