Shimano Symmetry 2500

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, looking for a new spinning reel for finesse fishing this year. I have the opportunity to pick up the one listed brand new for almost half the price, $56 to be exact. Is it worth it? Especially at this price. I was originally looking to pick up a stradic but this deal seems too good to pass up. What do you think? Thanks in advance!

What are you doing? Grab it!

I have one of the 2500 series and absolutely love it, that's a great deal!

Absolutely!

Thought so, just wanted to make sure... Definitely will fill the void up from my sienna until I get a stradic!

I don't like the new symetre, its a knuckle buster (their change to a compact design) and there's still binding issues with them.

Yeah I had one and hated it, terrible design. Mine had the binding to from one rain.

I would buy as many of them as they had if it was at a store location....

If you do get it, order some extra friction rings whenever they get them in stock, it's usually a 3 month wait

This doesn't make sense to me, a new reel should need no back up parts.

I've handled the reel in the store, does not captivate my interest.

This is the reason I sold my Sahara FE and switched over to Pflueger. That new design is so uncomfortable. I think you have to go all the way up to the Stradic to get away from that stem design.

I own three of them (2500). I love everything about them, light, amazing look and feel, smooth drag, but after one 6-month season of moderate use ALL 3 were binding. I got them replaced but once it happens again it won't be covered. I love shimano for their quality but I think I'm gonna stick with their rods not reels for now on. For $100 reels a piece they shouldn't have those issues. Also I don't have the knuckle busting issue because I do have smaller hands but when my dad used it he said he was hurting his hands.

The more I have been experimenting with brands I have fallen in love with lews reels even though I have been stuck on shimano nearly all my life.

Have tried flushing them and using a different grease?

When shimano replaced them I believe they mentioned it is related to a part wearing down (and is known to do so in this line) which is a defect in the part itself. Maybe different grease would help a little but based on shimano's response I believe it would fail eventually anyways. Also, Buying 3 brand new reels, then having them all fail in their first 6 months of moderate and well treated use I shouldn't even have to think of replacing any factory parts/lube/grease. Now that I have them back and will no longer be covered if they fail again, I may try to maximize their longevity by using something different.
