Umbrella Rigs For Smallies??

Featured Replies

Does any one use umbrella rigs for smallies? If so what type and what swimbaits?? Thanks.

If the bass are keying on shad, they will eat an umbrella rig. Just tune your presentation to what the fish tell you, just like anything else.

I'd be more inclined to shifting to smaller baits like the Kietech 3.5 and 4" swing impacts on a 2/0 to 3/0 1/8-3/16oz head.  The smaller heads give them more kick as well.  But I don't see why they wouldn't eat one.

I wonder if smaller money minnows would work too???

I don't like the action on the money minnows.  Here is a list of what I fish on umbrella rigs

Kitech Swing Impacts 3-4"

Kitech Shinners        3-4"

Lunker City Grubsters 3.25"

Big Bite's Shad 3"

The Grubsters are a fat body bait with a good kick to it that would give you more action then the money minnow will.  I normally mix up a few different styles and let the fish tell me what they want.

Actually, I primarily target smallies with a u-rig. Dippers work well on J-Will heads. The Yumbrella rig is an affordable rig that works well.

Hmm...

Have you ever actually fished with The Rig?

No not yet I just got a few on the flea market.
