Hello From Southern California.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Richard, been fishing all my life since I could remember. Love my old man for showing me the sport. I just got into fishing bass. I've used a spinning reel all my life. Till about a couple weeks ago. I got a casting rod for my birthday. And recently bought my first casting reel. Its been rough learning how to use it but I'm getting there lol. Here is a pic of my baby. Phenix Maxim 7'3" MH I love this rod!

I did my research on what reel to get and went with the Lews LFS. I'm having a hard time with the reel being right handed. So used to spinning reels and reeling in with my left hand. Well not really a hard time just can't get use to it.. To the point where I want a new left handed reel lol. Still having trouble with birdsnest too. Any tips are appreciated. Hope to learn as much as possible and share as much as I can with my experiences so I can become a better bass fisherman. I'm so addicted to it!!! Thanks for looking!

Thanks everyone!! So does anyone have a left handed reel they want to trade for a right handed Lew's LFS? Lol

  • Super User

Welcome, takes time to get used to fishing a baitcaster.  Wish I could help with the trade but all mine are just like the one you got.  Just keep practicing and it will come.

@gulfcaptain thank you sir. I will keep at it. Got a little frustrating last time I went out. Gonna keep messing with the settings on the reel. Been looking at some you tube videos to get some tips. Gonna try to hit a local lake tomorrow morning since its been in the 80s here in California.

Again thanks for the welcomes! I appreciate it..

I live in Ventura, and I have a boat tagged for lake casitas, where abouts are you in southern california?  what local lake where you speaking of?  I only use left handed baitcasters cause casting and then switching hands just seems stupid to me

That's a nice local pond, can be tough but it can also be good.  Fish there quite often when I'm in town.  Maybe I'll run into you some day in person.
