"fishinphilly" you gotta take advantage of those days when the weather warms up over 20+ degrees in a day (water temps 38-40) , I feel your pain man im in VA and its not much warmer here but ive been able to catch some good fish this winter on those days its sunny and warms up to 40-50 throwing a trap or jerkbait.  Moreso the trap because its rained just about every other day here for the past month and everywhere you go the water is pretty muddy. They love that rattle and vibration coming off a 1/2-3/4 oz lipless crank. Other than that i spend my time on the forums or on tackle warehouse doing about the same thing you are doing. Good luck!!

I'm 25 miles north of Allentown near Jim Thorpe (PA) where I'm a volunteer firefighter. We have a water rescue team and so this morning we cut a hole in the ice and practiced rescues. On this particular pond, shallow with water running in one end and out the other the ice was 7" deep. 6 hours later I still have a chill in the bones. 

 

Anyway, being on the water got me thinking about the end of this winter, getting my tackle ready and the boat prepped. Spring can't come soon enough. We are supposed to get more snow this weekend.

I fished in 67 degrees weather today. Caught a 3lb & 1lb bass. the 1lb fought harder than the 3lb. Done right in the middle of a congested, but nice, area in an urban setting. Walked the bank and caught both on a Humdinger Spinner Bait, gold blades. Colorado & Indiana blades with white & chartreuse skirt. 75 degrees tomorrow & I'll be at a different location.

I last got out on December 26th, when we had a warm day of almost 50 degrees.  Yeah, we already have three feet of snow on the ground and another foot or two coming in the next 36 hours or so, but we're also having a great ski season, so I don't think Winter sucks.  I can't say I'm not jonsing for a day out fishing, but it's Winter, and I'm in New England....   

 

I look at it this way: it's nearly the middle of February, so I'll be fishing again in roughly eight weeks.....

YUp this is my winter time cabin fever trick. I shot pool in leagues and play  tourneys every week , makes the winter fun and fly by!!

That being said, I called the wildlife ministry in Qc and asked them about catching bass out of season since Pike fishing opens up a whole month before Bass fishing does and a lot of Pike lures will also work for Bass. I was basically told that as long as I don't have bass in the boat, I am okay. So as far as I can tell, it's okay to practice catch and release outside of the official season. Just be very gentle with the fish you catch since the reason it only opens in June is to ensure they have a safe spawning season.

There is always accidental catches when I go for perch, crappies and pike.  The rule is you need to quickly and safely release the bass.  You aren't allowed to take pictures either, no weighing either you must promptly release.

Until today winter has sucked but man I don't know what changed they were biting pretty good this very cold (33*) morning (1st pic is my new personal best to boot)

LOL sorry guys I forget some folks have to deal with snow/ice conditions.

Well I still go bass fishing in the winter if I feel like it.I don't go as often but I do go.I primarily fish the strip pits here in s.e. Kansas and there is a trout pit to fish as well.

I also build models and woodworking for hobbies as well so winter is a good time for the model building.

Not much Global Warming going on up here today ~

The weather in the Northeast really stinks right now.  It's a three-day weekend for me, and it's even too cold to ice fish!  

 

It's 5*F here right now, with winds gusting to 20 MPH.  Forecast for tonight is for -15*F.

I belong to a gun club that has a small indoor range. Thursday evening is pistol night so I get to shoot year round in comfort. Still, I prepare all of my handload ammo in the fall because my garage is not heated, a real bear to work in these days.

 

I also take classes at my local community college (for personal enrichment). Crazy I know but I'm hooked on it. So when the weather gets better I still will have limited time until the middle of May.  I'ts been in the single digits with snow this weeks and I think I'm officially sick of winter.

I think I've had about enough of winter for 2015.

 

Officially the Coldest Day I've experienced here in northern Michigan   -30   without the wind chill.

That's crazy. 

Today, 0°, reached 17°, but the wind chill kept it near 0 all day. One of our regulars, an old timer, leaned into the kitchen on his way out, and with a wink, reminded me it's only 40 days 'til trout opener. Only 40 days!
