Yes. I pond fished a lot as a teenager and caught lots of bass with Johnson Silver Minnows. It was the first weedless bait I ever fished .I didnt even use a trailer. Didnt know you were suppose to .

Johnson silver minnows are great, especially around weeds and the Luhr-Jensen Krocodile spoon is a good option for open water. One of the best for casting from shore is the Acme Kastmaster, that is the simplest looking thing but it does a great job at catching fish. I have never used it for bass, I would use the 1/8oz version for trout and the rainbows would hammer it but in one creek I use to fish I couldn't keep the smallmouth off of it, if I was going to cast a spoon from shore, the Kastmaster would be it, 1/4 or 3/8oz for bass, 1/8oz and it will catch crappie, trout and all sorts of stuff.

I have not. That would be interesting to try, though.

Nail on the head.... Usually I fish it with a skirt, twin tail, or large grub though.

I've tried fishing with a bunch of different spoons from shore but never catch too much. It's probably user error though.

yup kast masters and dare devil spoons for trout and white bass

I use spoons quite a bit.  I'll nix the Johnson silver minnows for 2 reasons, they turn over and create more line twist and the hook is that sharp, they do excel in weedy conditions.  If you like that type of spoon check out a clark spoon, the hook can be replaced.  Kastmasters are super, especially where distance is needed, I've forgone my Krocs in favor of them but I don't them for bass fishing from shore.  For bass from my favorite is a  gold hammered Wahoo Redfish key spoon, yes it's a saltwater spoon, all I use for bass now.
