Another Braid/spinning Question

Featured Replies

I know there are a few braid related threads going on right now, but I wanted to ask a more specific question. I think I am going to make the braid to flouro leader switch on my spinning setup. I really only have one spinning set tho, and was wondering if it is a disadvantage to use braid for all types of lures. Mainly it will be drop shot, tubes, shaky heads, senko.

Also, what braid/size do you guys use for these setups?

As always, thanks for the advice!!

You can find the answer to your question within the other questions ... I haven seen it in the thread I made

I use 10lb powerpro braid to a 10lb flouro leader. I have not seen a "disadvantage" to throwing different types of lures on the braid but I only use braid on my spinning setups anyway.

I use pretty much the same..

I am essentially the same on my spinning setups.  10# Sufix 832 with a 8# fluoro leader.

20 LB Braid with a fluoro leader. Fishing around heavier cover, you want a line that has more abrasision resistance which is why most people use a fluorocarbon leader.

15-20 lb braid will handle all those applications and give you a little bit of muscle power being its 15-20 lb.

10lb/2lb diameter Power Pro Super Slick with a 8 or 10 pound leader is what I use for all the baits you listed.

I throw 15lb power pro on all of my spinning rods, even my setup for cold weather salmon (The baitcasters tend to freeze up easier, plus drip water onto your hands when the waters 30 degrees and it's negative 5 with the windchill it's not so much fun). It handles everything from rattle traps, to big swim baits, right down to 3/8ths of an ounce jig heads with a 3" minnow on it for small 8-10 pound trout fishing.

Spinning, braid, leader for 100% of my fishing for every lure type and all species.

I have "evolved", so to speak, and now use braid for most of my fishing applications. Quite successfully too I might add. For drop shotting I now have 10# test PowerPro for the main line with a 6# test fluorocarbon leader. I upgraded from 4# test for the leader due to the teeth on the smallies breaking me off at the hook too often. Now, with a 6# test leader, I rarely loose a fish. My next drop shot set up will use 6# test Fireline Crystal for the main line instead of the PowerPro. Reason being is I do not like the "sing" of PP through the guides when retrieving. And I don't really need 10# test for main line anyway.
