Buzzbaits In Spring?????

Featured Replies

So my grandpa tells me he used to throw a buzzbait a lot in the spring. He said prespawn through post spawn.

Do you guys have any luck with the buzz in spring? When do you start throwing them?

Buzzbaits are a good choice any time fish are up shallow and on the edge of cover which would occur a lot in the prespawn. In the post spawn, fish will recede out to the edges once again. Also there is the bluegill and shad spawn during the post spawn, so there will be a lot of bass up shallow chasing. Post spawn is a time of the year that's pretty popular for top water fishing.

Dirty water is also a place where this bait does well.

I really don't fish buzzbaits all that much on my lake because its so deep and usually pretty clear. I usually opt for a spook as far as top water goes and a frog in some places.

KVD just wrote an article on this on the bassmaster app download it and check it out

I went fishing before work this morning from about 6:30-9:30. Caught several fish. Most of which were on a buzzbait. I reel until its over a bed and let it fall.

Grandpa is right IMO and can expand on that even...for me it just depends on the high/low pressure, cloud cover and wind.  I throw it from late March/April clear thru July/August.  Personal best tournament weight...23#s came on a white lunker lure on a cloudy, 5mph wind day with low pressure...around lilly pads in 3 ft of water....timing is key with a buzz bait but ALWAYS a good search bait for sure!  Post spawn...just slooow it down, maybe use a cavatron buzzbait of ad a buzz frog style plastic or grub on the back to help it float better and let you slow roll it

nice!  yeah for spawners and especially male chasers that pause and be deadly.  If the water is a little stained there's no better way to cover spawning flats for bed than with a buzzbait.....they can't stand it! lol

My heaviest limit of buzzbait bass was caught in April.
