Best Rapala Dt6 Color For Clear And Dark Water?

Featured Replies

I'm going to pick up one or two Rapala DT6 crankbaits.  I fish at strip pits with very clear water and also a state park with greenish brownish water here in Indiana.  What would be the best colors for clear water and darker water?

Thanks!

Helsinki Shad is what color I reach for 90% of the time in clear water. I have used the Bleeding Olive Shiner but only in the DT Fat 03 which has been discontinued and that lure worked when nothing else did (color/size).

Olive Shiner did well for me in clear water when I fished DT's.

The perch and bluegill colors have worked well for me in all colors of water. I have a cousin who custom paints lures and I have him doing me up some 10 and 16's to mimic this Rat'L Trap color for those muddy water lakes.

That sounds like a healthy lake. Assuming that the natural forage base is mostly bluegills perch and minnows I would stick to those colors and maybe something bright like a foxy shad to show them something different

They have a Mardi Gras greenish colored crankbait.  Iaconelli said in a video it was colored that way because of greenish worms and soft plastics.  I don't think I see too many green crankbaits.  Come to think of it, I don't recall any green looking crankbaits.  Would that Mardi Gras color work in dark and clear water?

What do the bass feed on where you will be fishing?

That should determine the colors you select.

They have have a green crawl color, I have a few.

Same graphics as the demon color just darker green. Yozuri use to make a killer 1/4 oz watermelon green w/ black fleck.. It was a great little bait! Pearl is good, find a color you like and can believe in, pretty sure you will get bit at some point..

Try baby bass. Rapala has a very realistic baby bass pattern.

Living in Indiana I reach for bluegill, Perch, sexy shad in that order

My go to color in the DT6 for greenish stained water is HANDS DOWN Hot Mustard. Wow what a game changer and confidence color for me!

I probably own  10 of them in Hot mustard, and the others I  have... i wish were in hot mustard LOL

Red Crawdad. Word of warning if you have not used these before. Don't slap the water with these to shake loose vegetation on the hooks or bill. These bills break off easier than any other crank I've used,(broken)

Great point! x2! Dont slap the water with them. You WILL break the bill off

Don't slap any balsa bait on the water, you will break the bill off.

OK, I picked one up - DT6 in Blue-gill color.  One thing I do know in the ponds I fish at, along with bass there are blue-gill and crappie.  I tried finding the Mari Gras color but Gander Mountain didn't have that color in the DT6.

Now you tell me!

Don't slap any balsa bait on the water, you will break the bill off.

Don't cast into them into bridges either unless you're trying to break of the bill.

Bluegill worked great for me in clear to lightly stained! Im trying different ones this year, cant wait!

Do you guys find the DT6 to be a good all around crankbait?

I like the bait quite well, except.. I have broke many bumping cover, not slapping the bait in the water to remove veg. I have 9 left, when these are gone I will be investing in Spro cranks..
