As you guys know I like my 50 size reels in the "round" however I decided to give it a go and dive into the LP arena. One factor that caught my eye on the new Aldebaran 50 is the SilentTune feature something that will not be available on the new BFS LTD model and of course the HG option. I have one too. Quick question, how does it feel turning the handle? Mine feels like there is a little resistance when turning the handle, almost like it was tightened a little too much. It's super smooth and OMG light,but it feels a little different turning the handle than my other bait casters.

It's most likely due to the excessive grease in the reels

I'm looking into either one of those or a metanium ... Which ever one I hear is the best will be the reel for my ultimate flipping rod

So much new, neat stuff already released this year and this one is tempting. BUT, speaking of round reels, I think I'll be more likely to look at the high-speed Conquest when it's released in a month or so...

Yeah mine is the same. I think most of the weight loss was in the handle and knobs area, so that slight buttery friction is probably just the slight resistance of the gears. I love it

That got me thinking, so I took my 2 out of the rack and gave them a spin. I don't feel any resistance what so ever, smooth as glass and free as a bird. I'd just open it up and see how much grease is in it. Brian.

Can't go wrong with either. The Met is good because of slightly more line capacity but the Aldebaran is good because its really light making it more ergonomic.

Personally I think Shimano takes the cake when it comes to out of the box reels with the Met and Aldebaran. That's not comparing them to the Super tuned Megabass reels though.

And on another note, I cannot wait for someone to release a micro spool for the Aldebaran.

Megabass reels are mostly cosmetics though...

My HG feels nice and smooth. It casts so effortlessly. Really enjoying it for around 1/4oz and down.

First of all I'm using 20lb Power Pro. I have two brakes on internally and the dial on two with a pretty fast drop when I let 1/4oz fall straight down. I've had one backlash with this setup so far.

I spent an hour with mine the other day. After some time, I settled with 1 brake on, dial at 2.5 and spool tention set to just remove any side to side play on the spool. I have it spooled with 10lb. Stren High Impact, mounted on a Shimano HM-1 Cumara 6'8" Med./Ext. Fast and throwing a XR25 One Knocker(.437 oz.). It was throwing that setup 50+ yards, I will eventually get a measured distance. I was quite pleased with it. Brian.
