Best Split Ring Pliers

Featured Replies

I bought the stuff to make my own Chatter Baits (split rings, blades and a couple of swim jigs). When I open up the split ring it doesn't open up enough for jig to go through the ring. I've seen split rings open up more than what it is doing for me, so, i'm assuming it is pliers I'm using. What are some that you like to use?

I've tried many. None work as well as my thumbnail and a micro screwdriver. Spread the ring with your thumbnail, hold it open with the screwdriver.

+5  --  Did the thumbnail thing for 25 years - Texas Tackle Split Ring Pliers are better :) LOL....  Just wish it hadn't taken me so long to find out - too stubborn, I guess.

I used to think to myself that I didn't need a pair of pliers dedicated to changing split rings and treble hooks, but I rapidly got tired of the fingernail/screwdriver technique.  It works but it's not the most pleasant.

If you change trebles/split rings with ANY frequency whatsoever, invest in the Texas Tackle pliers.

I bought a pair of them I the recommendation by guys here a few years ago. If I remember to use them, I do. I don't find them to be the great thing everyone made them out to be.

I think mine are Berkley, but if I have to open the ring really wide I'm with Franco. I open the ring with the pliers and use a screwdriver.

I am with J Francho on this, . " I don't find them to be the great thing everyone made them out to be".
